Avenue of opportunity for Declan O'Rourke in Cork

Thursday August 26 2010

INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed singer/songwriter Declan O'Rourke will make a welcome return to Cork on Friday, September 3 for a gig at Cyprus Avenue.

The gig is part of a Irish tour that will see O'Rourke play a number of intimate venues across the country ahead of the release of his eagerly awaited third solo album.

O'Rourke will use the tour to give fans a taste of what to expect on the new album, the follow up to his 2007 LP Big, Bad Beautiful World, which is due out in the autumn.

Having performed on the fringes of the Irish music industry for a number of years, O'Rourke hit musical gold in 2004 following the release of his debut album Since Kyrabam.

Following the release of the album a number of the music industry's top names including Paul Weller, Snow Patrol and Kate Rusby declared themselves fans of O'Rourke's music.

Weller had particular praise for O'Rourke's haunting ballad Galileo, describing it as one of the greatest songs of the past 20 years.

The 2007 release of Big, Bad Beautiful World served to cement his reputation as one of the leading Irish performers of the past decade, helping O'Rourke to secure support slots with a host of the music industry's top names including Weller, Paulo Nuitini, The Beautiful South and Nanci Griffith.

Tickets for O'Rourke's gig at the Cyprus Avenue €20 from www.tickets.ie.
