Gavin's whistle leads night of trad at Ionad
THE man widely regarded as one of the finest living exponents of the tin whistle, Gavin Whelan, is to play a oneoff concert at the Ionad Cultúrtha in Ballyvourney on Friday, March 12.
He will be joined on the night by Deirdre Smyth (fiddle), Dominick Keogh (bodhran) and James Ryan (guitar & mandola).
Whelan shot to prominence in 2001 following the release of his eponymous debut album, which received widespread critical acclaim from critics for its crisp uncluttered phrasing and clear, bright tone.

He is also much in demand at festivals both in Ireland and abroad appearing at the Finnish Irish Festival, Tel Aviv Irish Festival, Gutenbrunn Folk Festival, Phil Murphy Festival, UCC Tradfest and Feakle Traditional Music Festival.
