Great event for GAA at awards night

Well-known Cork footballer Paudie Kissane was a busy man presenting trophies and medals at the recent social of the Fermoy GAA Juvenile and Minor Club.
Paudie presented the club's winning teams of the adult club when they came together last Friday night at the Grand Hotel in Fermoy. Over 170 guests were adequately catered for by the management and staff at the hotel.
The function was cohosted by Brendan Keane and Paul Lardner Chairpersons of the adult and juvenile sections respectively. They welcomed the guests present and especially the club's school coach John Donegan whose work on behalf of the club in the seven National Schools of the parish is very much appreciated, they thanked the management of the seven NS for their great co-operation also.
Championship and league-winning medals were presented to the members of the club's U12 and 14 teams as well as to U16 footballers (N Cork C/ships) the highlight of the evening was the presentation of the winning medals for the Cork County Minor A C/ship (Rebel Óg) to the Fermoy minor hurlers who were led by their captain Michael Pyne.
These were a little bit special because it was the first year of the County Minor Board competitions and as such the lads are the first winners of this particular title.
Michael Pyne, on behalf of the team, thanked the coach and manager Denis Ring and all his selectors for the time and effort they all put into winning this County title, he made souvenir presentations to their mentors on behalf of the players,
The medals for winning the Cavanagh's of Fermoy sponsored Div 3 HL were also presented to the team led by their very committed captain Pa Burke who I am glad to be able to say will remain with the club again this year despite being based in Galway,
The Seanie Keohane Memorial trophies were presented to Tomas Clancy (football) and Darragh O'carroll (Hurling) Tomas, it will be recalled had a great year winning football medals with Cork in U21 (Munster) and at Munster and All-ireland level with Cork Juniors, He also became the first Fermoy man in many years to win a Cork Co SF medal won with UCC in 2011.
One of the major Awards of the evening was the presentation of the Clubman of the Year to retiring club Treasurer Denis O'brien in recognition of the vast amount of work he has being doing on behalf of the club for a long number of years, He has been replaced on the Executive Committee by Mark Condon and Denis wished Mark well in his new post. Denis was awarded the Dave Sheehy Memorial Trophy which was sponsored by Cavanagh's of Fermoy and presented by John Baragry. GAA/PITCH AND PUTT LOTTO THERE was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot worth €20,000 when the draw took place at the Forge Bar last week.

SPORTS NEWS — PITCH AND PUTT The final Qualifying Round of the Fermoy Credit Union sponsored winter League is scheduled to be played this week end.
After three rounds it is very tight at the top with two teams led by Willie Burke and Ned Rice sharing the lead on 266 net, they are closely followed by Ger O'keeney's team on 267.
This trio look most likely to qualify for the final on the following weekend but it could be quite a battle for the fourth and fifth places so close are the scoring totals of the teams in their wake.
Last week's individual winners were – overall James Devonshire 40 nett, Gross Seanie Keohane 45g, Ladies Nett Theresa O'keeffe 43, SOCCER TEAMS GOING WELL The Fermoy Soccer club teams are enjoying a great year on the field so far this season. There's nothing won yet but the chances are greater now than at any time over the past few seasons.
The senior team are keeping the pressure on the two clubs above them in Division One, on Sunday last they decisively defeated Ballincollig 3-0 away to keep within striking distance of promotion to the Premier grade for next season.
The club's junior team are the clear leaders in their Division of the MSL and they consolidated this with a good 1-0 victory over Everton United at home last weekend. The club's third side Junior 'A' lost 0-3 at home. RUGBY TEAM WIN THRILLER
The Fermoy Rugby team got 2012 under way with a thrilling 33-32 win over rivals Waterford City in a game played in Fermoy over the weekend.
This victory has given the team a great restart to their season and they are looking forward to a few more good results in the coming weeks to boost their season. AGM OF FERMOY MS The Annual General Meeting of the Fermoy Branch of MS will be held Sunday, February 12, in the Pavilion of Fermoy GAA Pitch and Putt Club commencing at 2pm.
All members, families and friends are invited to attend and will be very welcome. Light refreshments will follow after the meeting, RED RIDING HOOD WILL BE IN TOWN TONIGHT A quick reminder that as tickets are selling very quickly for the Pantomine which opens on this Thursday night at the Fermoy Community Youth Centre 7.30pm, you would be advised to get yours straight away, the show runs also on to morrow night Friday, January 27, at 7.30pm, Saturday, January 28, at 2.30pm and 7.30pm, it closes on Sunday, January 29, at 2.30pm and at 7.30pm.
