THE final concert of this year's North Cork Classical Music series will take place on Thursday, September 9 at St George's Church in Mitchelstown.

Organisers have pulled off a major coup in securing the services of internationally acclaimed British cellist Rapheal Wallfish to headline the final concert.

He will be joined on stage by Redmond O'Toole on eight-string guitar, for what promises to be a spectacular conclusion to the 2010 season of concerts.

One of the most celebrated contemporary cellists in the world, Wallfisch won the prestigious Gaspar International Cello competition at the age of 24.

Since them he has gone on to enjoy a glittering career both as a performer and a teacher, currently holding the position of cello professor at both the Crich Winterthur Konservatorium in Switzerland and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Classically trained Irish guitarist Redmond O'Toole's unorthodox playing style and passion for music have earmarked him out as one of the most innovative and exciting young guitarists in Europe.

Uniquely he plays the eight-string Brahms guitar in the cello position connected to a resonating box. The additional range of the guitar allows for an expansion of his repertoire offering a sound unlike anything that has been produced before.

The concert will be dedicated to the memory of the late John Fenning who was a great supporter of the festival over the years helping to promote to a wider audience.

Tickets for the concert cost €15 and are available form Jane Annesley on 022 26145 or Liam Howard on 025 24858.
