THE Irish dance phenomenon that is Riverdance returns to the INEC in Killarney for a five night run from September 15. Composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty and directed by John McColgan, Riverdance opened in 1995 at the Point Theatre in Dublin, and has been experienced by over 22 million people worldwide since then.

Over 10,000 shows have been performed in over 250 venues in 30 countries, across four continents. In February 1997, the album won a Grammy award as 'Best Musical Show Album'.

The show's wave of public enthusiasm is not only reflected by show attendances, but by massive commercial success as demonstrated in phenomenal sales of the DVD, video and CD.

Riverdance is the development of an original idea by Moya Doherty, which was initially performed at the Eurovision Song Contest held in Dublin in April 1994, as a seven-minute interval act.

The show incorporates an innovative and exciting blend of dance, music and song. Drawing on Irish traditions, the combined talents of the performers propel Irish dancing and music into the modern day, capturing the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures.

The company consists of up to 80 members from both cast and crew, with the remarkable Riverdance Irish Dance Troupe, the cream of Irish musicians in the Riverdance Band and a spectacular array of talent from Spain, Russia and America, performing to the magic of Bill Whelan's music.

Padraic Moyles and Mairead Masuda will both dance the lead roles in Killarney. Padraic originally joined Riverdance in 1997 and he has toured with the show in the US, Canada, Mexico and Europe, while Mairead is one of Riverdance's newest leads.

Tickets cost €44 and are on sale now from the INEC Box Office, Tel 064 6671555 or log onto www.inec.ie.
