Savoy unveils a sparkling line-up

THE Savoy Theatre in Cork city has unveiled details of a stunning programme of gigs over the coming weeks featuring top acts from Ireland, the UK and America.
In keeping with its welldeserved reputation as one of the top music venues in Munster, the Savoy has pulled out all the stops to put together a line-up that will suit all ages and musical tastes.
On Friday, March 19 rising UK rap star Chipmunk will grace the stage of the venue for the first time.
Although still only 18-years-old, the Londoner has achieved more than most musicians do in a lifetime, winning a plethora of awards including the 2008 MOBO award and Urban Music Award for Best Newcomer in addition to a nomination for Best Rapper at the American BET Awards.
He has racked up millions of plays on MySpace and Youtube for his solo work as well as enjoying huge success for his collaborations with the likes of Ironik and NDubz. Tickets for the gig cost €25.
The man regarded by many as the godfather of European techo, French DJ and producer Laurent Garnier, will play the Savoy on Saturday, April 1.
His spectacular live show, a spin off from his hugely successful fifth album 'Tales of a Kleptomaniac', features a six piece band (including a horn section) and effortlessly brings together a mix of genres including acid jazz, dubstep and dub reggae for a night of pure musical magic. Tickets for the gig cost €29.50.
On Monday, April 12 Grammy nominated US band OneRepublic will play the Savoy, one of only two gigs they are playing in Ireland during 2010.
The band are perhaps best known for their multi-million selling single 'Apologise'. The song held the record for having the biggest ever radio airplay of any song ever in the US and peaked at number one in the billboard top 100 charts for eight consecutive weeks.
Their second album 'Waking Up' released in October of last year, spawned the hit single 'All The Right Moves' and made it into the top 30 in both the US and UK. Tickets for the gig cost €28.
British pop sensations Scouting For Girls will play the Savoy on Monday, April 19 as part of their European tout to mark the release of their latest album Everybody Wants To Be On TV. Tickets cost €25.
Three nights later Scottish singer/songwriter and producer Calvin Harris will bring his unique brand of electro-funk to the venue. As well as being a top-selling artists in his own right, Harris has also collaborated with a host of well known stars including Kylie, Minogue, Dizzie Rascal and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Tickets for the gig cost €30.
British rap and soul act NDubz will bring April to a close at the Savoy with an all ages gig on Friday, April 23. Tickets cost €25.
