Smither ready to roll out his unique brand of folk and blues

AMERICAN folk/ blues singer-songwriter Chris Smither will be playing the Pavilion on Tuesday, August 31.

It was way back in 1967 when, after beginning song writing and performing his own songs, Smithers was featured on the cover of Broadside Magazine and shot to fame. Since then his husky yet soothing voice has brought him on a journey that has spanned over four decades.

The New Orleans bred Smither's 11th studio album, 'Time Stands Still', was released last year and featured eight new compositions.

In keeping with his long-standing tradition of performing other writers' work, Smither included a trio of cover songs from Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler and 1920s country-blues songster Frank Hutchinson. The album is described as immediate, intimate, and pensive - yet was recorded in only three days.

The material from his latest album has been met with enthusiastic approval from audiences across the world — he has also performed across the globe including in Canada, Australia, France and Holland.

Some of Smither's other albums include 'Leave the Light On', 'Train Home' and the inspiring 1970s album 'I'm A Stranger Too'.

Smither will also be performing in Galway and Monaghan as part of his latest tour. Advance tickets at €20 (including booking fee) are available now from www.tickets.ie and Cork Tickets, Washington St.
