DON'T MISS Five Days

FIVE DAYS – MONDAY, BBC1, 9 P.M.

Thursday February 25 2010

BACK IN 2007, the Beeb broadcast Five Days, a drama by acclaimed writer Gwyneth Hughes set over, well, five days. It was critically acclaimed and featured a great cast, so everyone expected more of the same. But instead, everything went quiet – until now.

Suranne Jones heads the cast of this second series, playing DC Laurie Franklin, a policewoman who, while off duty, takes her mother, an Alzheimer's sufferer, for a day trip by train. Sadly, their journey is cut tragically short by somebody who seemingly commits suicide by jumping in front of the train. Meanwhile, in a Yorkshire hospital, a newborn baby is found abandoned. Are the two events connected? Laurie suspects they might be and begins digging deeper into both cases before realising that neither are straightforward matters.

'Once again Gwyneth has delivered a tense emotional drama about a rich range of characters which will leave viewers desperate to find out what happens next in a complex story of mystery and moment,' says Kate Harwood, the BBC's controller of drama series and serials. David Morrissey, Bernard Hill, Anne Reid and Nina Sosanya also star.
