Alex jumps to gold medal
Thursday March 11 2010
GOLD IN NENAGH: Last weekend it was the turn of our U14 to U19 athletes in The Munster Juvenile Indoor Championships at Nenagh.
Alex MacDonald had a good outing winning 1 gold and 2 bronze medals. The treasured gold was won in his final event on Sunday, the high jump.
In an event in which he had no training done, he jumped 1.45m. Prior to this he had won a bronze medal in the triple jump and in the shot putt. He had a great Championship.
Niall O'Brien was also in good form, winning a bronze in the shot putt, qualifying for the final of the 800m where he found the going tough. He was going well in the high jump when he got knocked out at 1.45m.
Everyone who travelled should be happy with their performances, but lack of practise in some cases and lack of stamina left the others down, where that little bit extra is required from Rebecca Perrott, James Kelly, Dawn Perrott, Michelle Buckley, Amy Linehan, Joe Cusack, Oisin Halliha and Clara Buttner.
Both Alex and Niall O'Brien qualify for the All Ireland Finals in Nenagh on March 27/28 or April 10/11. They qualify along with Heather Barrett and Niamh Fitzpatrick.
TRAINING: Will continue on Tuesdays in Liscarroll and on Fridays in Charleville from 6.30 to 8pm and athletes should take note of the fact that outdoor championships are fast approaching. County Championships are just seven weeks away and not all those who wish to compete in these competitions are in regular training.
TRACKSUIT TOPS: Tracksuit tops are now available to members on a first come first served basis. A limited number of each size are on hands.
