All roads lead to Cloughoula
CLOUGHOULA PATTERN DAY: The annual Cloughoula Pattern Day returns on Sunday with organisers hoping the weatherman will accomodate favouably to a staging that's underway at 1pm.
Traditionally one of the initial outdoor staging in the year, the hosting was orginally fixed for last month but fell victim to inclement weather. It returns to the grounds of Cloughoula National School situated on the main Macroom to Millstreet thoroughfare, promising to draw natives and friends to a picturesque setting.
A mixed bag of events to cater for all tastes with children sports, gaelic football, 45 Card Drive, Cake Sale to a recital by Milstreet Pipe Band part and parcel of a hectic itininary. Proceedings commence at 1pm with a schools quiz and football blitz. COUNTRY PARK: Millstreet Country Park welcomes the Muskerry Vintage Club on its annual run this Sunday. Vintage Cars are due to arrive between 2 and 2.30pm. A bumper programme is planned for Sunday with a Father's Day theme and there is something to treat all dads in a hectic itinerary.
Upcoming, current Cork Rose Laura Mitchell will officially visit Millstreet Country Park on Friday, June 24. This is Laura's last official visit as reigning Cork Rose before she hands over her title and crown on the following night in the Radisson Hotel.
Laura will be available for all visitors and seasonal ticket holders to meet and get photographs and autographs. In return, Laura will sample some of our new and exciting venison products and test the new raft building activities on the lake.
BEST STATION AWARDS: Millstreet securing runner up place in the Intercity Halts category at the 16th annual Waterford Crystal-sponsored Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards.
The award was presented by CIÉ and Iarnród Éireann Chairman Dr. John Lynch at a ceremony at the Croke Park Stadium.
The Waterford Crystal Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards reward excellence in customer facilities, cleanliness, innovation and customer service in the country's 137 railway stations, with Greystones scoring highly in all categories to win outright victory.
Speaking at the awards, Iarnród Éireann Chief Executive Dick Fearn congratulated all the prize winners and highlighted the importance of enhancing facilities and providing better stations for all the community. HUNGER STRIKE COMMEMORATION: The 30th Anniversary Commemoration to the 1981 Hunger Strike was be marked in Millstreet on Saturday last. From an assembly point is outside Dairygold Co-Op, a march followed to National Monument in the Town Square with the MacCurtain/McSwiney Republican Flute Band.
Guest Speaker was Geno McCormack who was one of the "Blanket Men" interred in H Blocks at Long Kesh as a political prisoner, and refused to be treated as a criminal by refusing to wear the prison uniform. GRAMOPHONE CIRCLE: The monthly Millstreet Gramophone Circle's presentation takes place on this Friday night at 8.15pm in the Canon O'Donovan Centre, Clara Road. DANCING: Popular dancing continues at the Darby O'Gills, Killarney on this Thursday night is to the James Kelleher Band in addition to the popular Mick Condon Band. Dancing is from 8.30pm to midnight. ADULT LEARNING: The Millstreet Festival of Adult Learning operates from July 18th-22. Participants can come and find out about their local Adult Education Service and what it has to offer.

GAA: Millstreet hosts the attractive meeting of Dromtariffe and Lyre in the Ducon Cup Final in Millstreet Town Park on this Friday evening with a 8pm throw in. ST JOHN'S GAA: St John's come up against Goleen in the County Junior B Football Championship in Kilmichael on this Sunday at 3.30pm. Supporters are invited to come along and support the team. SLIABH LUACHRA SUMMER CAMP: The annual Sliabh Luachra Summer Camp in Bruach Na Carraige Rockchapel runs from Monday, July 18 to Friday, July 29 for children aged between 7 and 15 and is on each day from 10am to 2.30pm.
Children who can play music will be taught new tunes, children who have not played music will learn a few simple tunes on the tin whistle. They will learn a few traditional songs, and about six Ceili dances in addition to games and much fun.

A First Aid Course with defibrillator training will be held in Aubane Community Centre, it will be held over three Saturdays in September/ October. Additionally participants will be shown the smart way to job hunt in today's fast moving environment and develop methods for researching employers.
Meanwhile an Interview Skills Workshop will help participants learn how to prepare for meeting with prospective employers. Participants will learn techniques for reducing pre-interview nerves; identify Interview Checklist of Do's and Don'ts and also learn about grooming and Dress Guidelines.
