Analeentha wins Shield final
FR BYRNE SHIELD: A strong team performance by Analeentha NS saw them retain the Fr Byrne shield on Sunday, June 14 in Killavullen.
Analeentha defeated Shanballymore NS in the final having overcome hosts Ballygowan in the qualifiers. In the final, Aoife Walsh and Jolene Forde defended brilliantly together with Gearoid O'Shea who broke forward to make vital scores.
John Martin O'Hanlon excelled in goal. Mike Forde, James Buckley and Niamh O'Connell were like Duracell bunnies in a strong running midfield which provided the impetus for the team going forward while Amy O'Connell and Aisling O'Sullivan were always prominent up front.
The bench was used to good effect with Mark O'Sullivan, Caolfhionn Brophy and Laura Crowley making telling contributions when they came on. Captain Aoife Walsh thanked teachers, mentors, referees, participating schools and the organisers of the competition as she accepted the trophy on behalf of the team. INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Clyda Rovers 3-11 Macroom 0-11
Clyda Inter footballers had a good victory facing into championship when they had 3 goals to spare over Macroom in Donoughmore last Sunday night. Clyda started brightly with the midfield of Fionn O Shea and John O'Hanlon holding possession very well. Maurice O'Brien goaled on the 20th minute mark to leave Clyda 1-3 to 0-3 up.
Clyda finished the half very strongly with a number of frees from James Murphy and a point from play from Declan Roche to lead 1-8 to 0-4 at half time. The second half started great from Clyda when Conor O'Sullivan goaled early on, although Macroom came more into the game the Clyda defence never looked like conceding a goal, indeed it was Clyda who finished the stronger when sub Colie Lane scored a well taken goal to leave the sides at the end Clyda Rovers 3-11 Macroom 011.

LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB: Our gallant U14 Ladies football team who will represent Cork in the All-Ireland Féile Competition, to be held in Newbridge during the first weekend in July, will face a monumental challenge on Saturday next.
They will contest the County U14 A Championship football final against a St. Val's side who have represented Cork with distinction, for the last two years, in Féile.
This encounter will take place on Saturday morning next June 20 at 11.30am in Donoughmore. We extend our best wishes to the panel of girls in black and amber and to their mentors. As always we know and appreciate that our supporters will turn out in strength.
Heartfelt congratulations to the Cork U.14 Ladies, who on Saturday afternoon last, defeated Dublin in the AllIreland semi-final, played in Toomevara, Co. Tipperary.
They devastated a highly rated Dublin team, with a very polished performance from start to finish. The Mourneabbey club wishes to acknowledge the phenomenal contribution made by the four girls from the club who were members of the victorious rebels: Doireann O'Sullivan(Captain) Máire O'Callaghan, Miriam O'Callaghan Roberta Harrington.
Congratulations to our own Jerry O'Sullivan, who is a member of the Cork management team. We wish them every best of luck in the AllIreland final, date and venue to be decided.
On Monday night last the draws were made for the 2009 senior football Championship. The local girls were drawn against their good friends from Ballingeary. This encounter will take place on July 19, venue and time to be decided. It looks like there are
and busy weeks ahead for the club and hills to be climbed. CLYDA ROVERS GAA GOLF CLASSIC 2009: The 13th Annual Clyda Rovers GAA Golf Classic took place on Thursday and Friday last in Mallow Golf Club.
Yet again the weather was fantastic for the 2 day event which has been the social highlight of the year for the Club for many years. Over 70 teams played the well prepared Mallow Golf Course.
The Prize Giving Ceremony took place Friday night in the golf club in front of a large attendance.
MC for the night Derry Murphy welcomed all to the event, he also remarked that the Golf Classic had yet again been a tremendous success.
He praised the green keepers for the immaculate state of the course. Derry then called on Chairman of the Club John Roche to say a few words. John outlined how well the Classic was supported in times of recession, he thanked all the teams who entered. He also thanked the organising committee who started work a number of months ago getting teams and sponsorship.
John in particular thanked Derry and Doreen Murphy for sponsoring the classic this year. John said that money raised goes to good use in the club and the classic is a vital source of income for the club.
The Prizes were then given out for the two day event.

Denis Murphy spoke on behalf of the winning Albert Lynch's Team. This was the second time Alberts won the Clyda Classic and Denis expressed his delight and surprise on winning the event, he had particular praise for the Golf Classic sponsor fellow Publican Derry Murphy for supporting Clyda Rovers. He thanked all the People of Mourneabbey who support Mallow town and looked forward to next year's event when he'll be going for three wins in the classic.
