Arts Festival will suit all tastes

KANTURK Arts Festival will take place from Friday, March 12, to Wednesday, March 17. The Festival will have something to suit everyone from Art Exhibitions, Children's Theatre, Poetry Readings, The Annual St Patrick's Day Parade and The Liam O'Connor Show.

'The Liam O'Connor Show' will be live in the Edel Quinn Hall, Kanturk on Saturday, March 13. Tickets will cost €25. Tickets available from any member of the committee or contact: Siobhan O'Neill at 0868339134 or Tommy Mullane at 0872584994.

There will be four Exhibitions during the festival, the first will be an exhibition of invited artists in O'Callaghan's Motorworks Showrooms, the second will be an exhibition of local artists in Kanturk Library, the third will be an exhibition of pictures from the local schools and this will be displayed on the windows of local business premises. The final exhibition will be of the work of local well-known photographer Patrick Casey and this will be in the Temperance Hall, Strand Street.

On Sunday, March 14, there will an evening for the young, for ages 3yrs to 11yrs, it will be the reading of Grimm's Fairytales at 3pm, upstairs at The Riverside in Strand Street. Also on Sunday, March 14, at 3pm, a Poetry Reading in the Kanturk Library. On Tuesday, March 16, its Snatch Comedy at 9pm upstairs at Bob's.

On St Patrick's Day, Kanturk will host its annual St Patrick's Day Parade with everybody welcome to come along and take part or to view the Parade. The Parade will as in years gone by assemble at the Hospital Hill car park and make its way via Percival Street, Market Square, Main Street and on to Strand Street where the viewing stand will be situated. It promises to be a great day so come along and enjoy yourself while honouring our National Saint.

EUROPEAN LANGUAGES WEEK AT SCOIL MHUIRE:

EUROPEAN Languages Week was held in Scoil Mhuire last week, March 1-5. Both French and German are taught in the school.

Students participated in a variety of events including a French and German food fair at breaktime on Wednesday. Students enjoyed some wonderful French cuisine as well as German frankfurters and cakes.

Fifth and sixth year language students played each other in a soccer game at Kanturk F.C. grounds at Gurteenard on Tuesday afternoon. The 'French' were victorious 3-1! A great time was had by all. The week also saw students watching French and German films.

To finish up the week, First Year students enjoyed watching 'Night at the Museum 2' en francaise. This was follwed by a prize-giving ceremony for the winners of a poster competition held during the week. The winning students received Easter eggs.

KANTURK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE:

THE Annual General Meeting of Kanturk Chamber of Commerce was held at the Trade Union Hall on Wednesday, March 3, and resulted in the following officers being elected for the coming year: President Kieran Fitzgerald, Vice President Eamon Maginer, Secretary Francis Kenneally, Treasurer Pádraig Breen and PRO Martina Drew.

COFFEE MORNING:

COFFEE morning and raffle in aid of Our Lady's Hopstital in Crumlin and in memory of Cara, will be held in the Temperance Hall on Friday, March 19, from 10am till 2pm.

INTERMEDIATE HURLING LEAGUE:

KANTURK will begin their Division 3 Intermediate League campaign with a home game against Aghabullogue on Sunday, March 14, at 11.30am.

The early start time is to facilitate those wishing to attend the Cork and Kilkenny national hurling league game in Páirc Uí Chaoimh at 2.30pm.

BLOOD DONOR CLINIC IN KANTURK:

THE Irish Blood Transfusion Service will hold a mobile donor clinic in Coláiste Treasa, Kanturk, on Thursday, March 18, from 3pm to 5pm and from 7pm to 9pm.

It is hoped that all regular donors will attend and that new donors would be very welcome.
