Clyda elect new president

MOURNEABBEY

Thursday August 13 2009

LAST Friday Night Clyda Rovers GAA Club appointed a new club president to succeed the late John O'Sullivan.

Great Clyda supporter John Stack from Ballyknockin was the over whelming choice of the club membership. John has been a wonderful supporter of the club over the years, always attending games, be they minor or senior games. He commands a respect from the club membership, be it young and old, and was the popular choice.

At the meeting last Friday night club chairman John Roche said that the club could have no better man in the position of president and acknowledged the support he has given the club over the years.

John Roche said it was his privilege to ask John to accept the committee's recommendation that he become the new president.

The president elect said he was honoured to have been asked and he hoped the club would continue to flourish as it has done over many years, and wished all involved in the club the very best for the rest of the year, and years to come. JUVENILE GAA: Clyda's U12 hurlers opened their championship campaign om Monday night in Ballyclough, with a game against Milford. Clyda got the opening score of the game, a point from a free taken by the very much onform Conor Roche.

This was to be followed by some more excellent scores from James Buckley, Sean O'Shea, and Conor Roche, to give Clyda a deserved lead of 1-6 to 0-1 at half time.

The second half got off to a great start again for Clyda with a lightning goal from Gavin Dennehy, before Milford got their second point of the game.

Clyda's Conor Roche got a further 3 points in this half, and a fine goal came from substitute Ben O'Connor, leaving the final score 3-9 to 1-5.

Clyda put on a good performance all over the field, with the back line doing a great job in defence also.

We await confirmation as to who we are meeting in the next round.
