Comprehensive win over Cullen in cup
GAA: Lyre 4-15 Cullen 0-7
Lyre opened their Ducon Cup campaign with a comprehensive victory over Cullen last Saturday afternoon in Banteer.
Lyre started brightly and were on the scoreboard thanks to a Timmie Murphy double. Cullen responded to lead before another Murphy point and one from Colm O'riordan had Lyre in front again.
Solid play all over the field allowed further points from James Twohig, Kevin Tarrant, Damien Kearney and Denis Roche had Lyre 0-8 points to 0-4 ahead at the interval.
Lyre began the second half brightly with Roche finding the net for the first goal. Roche added two more goals between a David Murphy score to stretch Lyre's advantage and put the game safe for Lyre.
Roche bagging his quick fire hat trick in the third quarter in an outstanding display. Lyre finished with a flurry in the final quarter with further scores to Sean Murphy, Brian O'driscoll, David Murphy, Roche and Twohig saw Lyre increase their lead. Roche was proving a real handful for the Cullen defence, pouncing to bag his fourth goal of the afternoon as Lyre went on to win by a comfortable margin.
