Farmers Market this Saturday

The Killavullen farmers will hold their fortnightly market on this Saturday from 10.30am-1pm at The Nano Nagle Centre, Ballygriffin, Killavullen (on N72 between Fermoy and Mallow).

They are sorry that they had to cancel their last market due to flood conditions and regret any disappointment to their customers.

Saturday's market will be the second last one before Christmas and will have seasonal goods on offer such as wreaths for houses and graves and will be taking orders for the last market for 2009 which will be held from 4-8pm on December 19, under cover as usual.

They support local, organic and environmentally products. Come and see their fine display of meat, fish, free range chickens, eggs, cheese, vegetables, fresh bread and home baking and much more.

On Friday week, December 11 it will commence with Mass at 7.30pm in Killavullen Church, followed by a meal and social in Killavullen Hall.

All of retirement age, those living alone and widows and widowers will be most welcome and transport can be provided if necessary by contacting N. Walsh at 022-26118, or any member of the Community Council.

The Community Council members are most grateful to all who supported their table quiz last Friday for funds for the party, to Rita of The Haven Bar for hosting the event and for all her support, to Niall Hanrahan, the quiz master and to Rita, Councillor Tom Barry and Rev. Fr. Hegarty who sponsored prizes.

The winners were Michael O'Sullivan, Neilly Moylan, Brendan Lane and Tadhg Griffin; 2nd Gillian Forde, Dominic Lynch, Vivian Nagle and Paige Otey; 3rd John Magner, Billy Cotter and Mike McDonagh.

The monthly meeting of the Council will be held on Tuesday next at 9pm. All members are asked to come and help make final arrangments for the party.

Blackwater/ Avondhu transport scheme are organising a shopping trip to Cork on Monday, December 14 for those who regularly use their weekly bus service to Mallow and they will include members of our Active Retirement Group.

The bus will leave Killavullen at 11am returning at 4pm. All those with travel passes will be free of charge and if you wish to bring a relative or friend the charge will be €5 for an adult or €3 for a child. It is essential that you contact Annette at 26659 or Damien Tobin at 43553 on or before this Friday December 4 if you wish to travel.

Advent prayer each Wednesday evening 8-9pm; Advent Tridium Thursday Dec 10 at 6pm-Sun Dec13 at 2pm; Storytelling workshop with Clare Muireann Murphy Dec 12-13th and on Dec 21st, the winter solstice 4-6pm celebrating our winter blessings.

The AGM of our adult club takes place on this Saturday in the dressingrooms immediately after the 6.30pm Mass which will be offered for the deceased members.

On November 26 the draw in their weekly local lottery took place in Griffin's Bar, Skenakilla and the numbers drawn were 8, 10 and 26. The jackpot of €2100 was not won and the winners of the lucky-dip prizes were John Dorgan, Monanimy, seller The Haven Bar, Maureen O'Connor, c/o seller Lar Luddy and M.J. Healy, Gurranechole, seller The Haven Bar.

Juvenile Club: There was a good attendance of officers, parents and mentors at their AGM on Thursday last. They are grateful to all who attended and were delighted to see some new parents. The club would urge more parents to get involved and attend the meetings where new ideas and suggestions are always welcome.

Unfortunately Chairman Tim O'Neill has stepped down this year due to other commitments. They were unsuccesssful in electing a chairman and vice-chairman, Finian Magner agreed to chair the meeting. Other officers elected were secretary Marie Lane, treasurer Caroline Maunsell and board delegate Ciaran Maunsell.
