THE past year saw Millstreet maintain a positive image with numerous highlights and in the concluding of a four part series, an appraisal of October, November and December reads

OCTOBER:

LTV community television returns on air. Harvest Mass celebrated in Cullen. Living Scenes project involving second level students and older adults is underway in Millstreet Community School. Millstreet Library hosts childrens book festival. Millstreet stages 27th National Dairy Show on its return to the spacious Green Glens Complex

Ballydaly celebrates 80th Anniversary of the blessing and opening of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. A Mass for Junior Certificate Students celebrated by Fr. Declan O'Connor

Millstreet Pipe Band maintains a busy schedule of events and a hectic programme continues, the Millstreet bastions of piped music lead a victory parade for the newly crowned vounty hurling champions Newtownshandrum.

Nibbles Restaurant proprietor Eleanor Leahy sampled outright accolades on winning a gold medal at the final of the National Irish Food Awards.

Equestrian families journey to Millstreet for the the Owners Pony and Young Riders Charity Show in the Green Glens International Complex.

Aubane Social Club Fancy Dress Party In Wallis Arms Hotel supports Cystic Fibrosis facilities in Cork University Hospital. A new publication acknowledging a landmark in Millstreet sees the launch of "The Famed Hill of Clara, It's Poetry, History and the History of its Environs" in Aubane Community Centre.

Author Fr. Seán Tucker put together many months of research and brings to fruition an eye catching publication that throws a fascinating light on Clara Mountain and surrounds.

NOVEMBER:

Ceremony of Lights remembers deceased members of community. The Self-Build, Extend and Renovate Show returns to Green Glens. A War of Independence hero acknowledged in Millstreet with the fourth annual commemoration taking place in salute of Paddy McCarthy with guest speaker Cllr Monica Digney.

Millstreet enjoy success in the Muintir na Tire sponsored and Cork County Council supported Pride in our Community Competition. Millstreet farmer Donie Casey dominates Castleisland Mart Annual Show

Millstreet personality Seán Radley was amongst those fittingly acknowledged in the Specsavers promoted Ireland Involved Awards that showcases the work of volunteers across the country. The awards ceremony in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin heard President Mary McAleese hail the contribution of nominees from all over the country.

Banteer Drama Group presentations continue with an extended run and full houses acclaim a feast of live entertainment featuring Millstreet involvement.

The Parish Pastoral Council co-ordinate vote on Mass Synchronisation in Millstreet, Cullen and Ballydaly. St Patrick's Church on full song for a benefit choral service.

DECEMBER:

A large crowd attended the "Tastes of Christmas" festive cookery demonstration at Millstreet Community School organised and promoted by the Transition Year Students. IFA is up running, Millstreet/Ballydaly and Cullen IFA branches convene to elect new national President.

Millstreet Hospital Fund 45 Card Drive in Green Glens Complex boosts District Hospital. Millstreet capture double titles in Duhallow Scór na nÓg finals.

Juvenile GAA pays tribute to its sporting heroes at a Victory function in the Wallis Arms Hotel with divisional triumphs feted by county star Noel O'Leary. Cullen Young at Heart welcome patrons for Annual Mass and Party. Cloughoula National School host annual concert.

Ballydaly emerge best in Dan Seán O'Keeffe Memorial Shield Table Quiz. Runners and walkers brave snow to support Duhallow AC 5-mile road race.

Cullen and District Friends of the Handicapped gather for annual party. Aubane community stage annual Party. Despite plummeting temperatures, large turnout for Christmas religious celebrations.

The winter weather failed to halt the annual Mushera Mountain Climb on Christmas Day morning. Freezing conditions and treacherous roads are militating factors yet an enthusiastic attendance convened at St John's Well in aid of the Baby Jacob Fund. A night of Stories and Songs Around the Fireside takes place in Aubane.

The popular two day Millstreet Coursing meeting draws big attendance to Millstreet Town Park with local owner Donal G O'Mahony claiming popular double. Millstreet. Pipe Band play their traditional engagement on New Year's Eve.
