Highlights of the GAA year recalled at club's AGM
CROKE ROVERS: Congrats. to the Croke Rovers minor hurling team on winning the County League 2011 Final at Doneraile on Saturday last, when they defeated Satantas (Ballinora). We wish the players, coach and selectors continued success in the coming year. CORK MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION: A church gate collection will be held in Kilbrin on this Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th January.
The mental health foundation is a voluntary organisation supporting the people of Cork. Please give what you can, it will be appreciated.
KILBRIN GAA: The AGM of Kilbrin GAA Club took place in the Club House on Sunday last with a good attendance.
The out going chairman Donie O' Mahony thanked all for their attendance and outlined the activities over the past year.
He congratulated the junior Hurlers on winning the Duhallow Championship, Donie also congratulated the Junior B hurlers and Croke Rovers teams on success.
Secretary Tom O' Reilly gave a detailed account of all club activities over the year and treasurers Edwin Casey and Pat Dennehy gave an account of club finances.
The club would like to express their gratitude to Sean O'gorman for his hard work and dedication to the club over the past twelve months.
The chairman thanked his fellow officers for their hard work during the year and all who helped out in the club and fundraisers and supporters without whose help we would not be able to function.
Deep gratitude and appreciation was extended to Tom O' Reilly who stepped down from the Secretary position after serving the club for over ten years, Tom was dedicated to his job and was one of the most well admired and efficient secretaries in the county.
The following officers were elected for 2011. President Tom Duane, Vice presidents, Dan Breen, Fr. Finbarr Kelleher and Michael O' Mahony Chairman Donie O' Mahony, Vice Chairman Pat Breen, Sec. Vincent Hayes, Asst Sec. Tom O' Reilly, , Treasurers and Registrars Edwin Casey and Pat Dennehy, PRO Margaret O' Callaghan, Delegates to Duhallow Board Liam Buckley and Tom O' Reilly, delegates to County Board Pat Field and Sean Mcauliffe and Irish Officer Sean Mcauliffe.
LOTTO: The lotto was held in the Social Club on Sat night last for a jackpot of €3,300, there was no winner, numbers drawn were 2,9,17,and 19 lucky dip winners were Brendan Barrett, Kilbrin, Con Carroll, Kilbrin, Fionn & Kian O' Leary Kilbrin, Sean O' Hanlon, Ballybane and Con Carroll, Kilbrin.
The next draw will take place Saturday week next for a jackpot of €3,500.
ST BRIGID'S DAY: On the 1st of February at 8pm Sr. Maureen Cahill will facilitate a celebration of the life of St. Brigid in the James O'keeffe Memorial Centre, Newmarket.
Enjoy an informative, prayerful, ritual honouring St. Brigid as a role model for Irish women. Guest speaker on the night will be Fr. Sean O'duinn, who is a monk of Glenstal Abbey and author of the ' Rites of Brigid: Goddess & Saint'.
Learn and pray about the life of St. Brigid and the symbols associated with her. Registration is essential, contact Louise on 029-60633.
PRESENTATION: The presentation of the cheque to the Society of St Vincent de Paul took place last Thursday night in the Social Club. A sum of €1060 was raised by the people of the parish and surrounding areas in our annual St Stephen's day walk, and presented by John Joe O'sullivan to John Sugrue from the Kanturk branch of the St. Vincent de Paul Society who was on hand to accept the cheque. Mr Sugrue then went on to detail the great work the society does in our locality.
We would like to thank all those involved in organising the annual walk, which will celebrate its tenth year this year. We would like to especially thank John Joe O' Sullivan, Niall O'sullivan and John Corkery for researching the historical background for the chosen route. We wish to pay tribute to John Joe and Marian O' Sullivan for the spectacular reception they held after the walk. Over 70 people took part in the walk which was an outstanding success.
VALENTINES DAY: Come celebrate Valentines day with us as we hold a disco hosted by non other than Elvis,on Sat 11 Feb in the Social club. A great night of dancing and surprises is assured !!
CROKE ROVERS G.A.A. A.G.M: The Annual general Meeting of Croke Rovers will be held in the Kilbrin G.A.A. club rooms on this Thursday, 26th January at 8.00pm. Everybody Welcome!!
SACRISTAN COLLECTION: The collection for our sacristan will be taken up on Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th February.
DEEPEST SYMPATHY: We extend our Deepest Sympathy Margaret Haugh & family, on the death of her husband Con, who died recently May he rest in peace.
