LAST Wednesday night, under lights in Mourneabbey, Clyda Rovers played their first ever game in the Premier 2 Minor League, against Clann Na Gael.
A blistering first half saw Clyda leading at the break by 4-10 to 0-3, the goals coming from Michael Lenihan, two, and one each from Conor O'Sullivan and Chris Buckley.
The second half proved a more balanced affair and Clann na Gael came back strongly. However, Clyda held out well and in the end the final score was 4-18 to 3-09. MIXED RESULTS AT WEEKEND: The club had mixed results over the Weekend. Our Premier Intermediate Footballers had their Opening win of the year when they defeated Killavullen 2-11 to 0-08 last Sunday. However, our Junior Footballers, after a great first half, were defeated 3-13 to 3-07 by Grange in Mourneabbey (match report in Sport). FIXTURES: Wednesday, March 17 - Minor B Hurling League Clyda Rovers Vs Castletownroche in CTR at 12 O'Clock. GAA CLUB GEAR: New club shorts and socks now available from Noel Walsh 086-3272026 GAA SOCIAL: The Clyda Rovers GAA victory social for 2009, in conjunction with the Mourneabbey ladies football team, takes place on Friday week, March 19. Tickets cost €12 and will be available over the weekend from club committee. This was a great year for our Minor footballers who won the North Cork Minor A Football double and Minor A County league title.
