Huge turnout for Juvenile tournament

MILLSTREET Juvenile GAA Club hosted their Annual Perpetual Cup Competitions in the Millstreet Town Park on Sunday last. The tournaments are held in memory of the late Alan O'Connor, Tommy O'Connor and Connie Kelleher, geared for U8 and U10s in football and U12s in hurling. Not even the blow of Hurricane Katia could halt the enthusiasm of the young boys and girls on durt.The teams were led in a parade by Millsteet Pipe Band with presentations to the winning captains made by members of the O'Connor and Kelleher families. Organisers extend thanks to the O'Connor and Kelleher families for presenting the Cups, Shield and medals to the young players. And a huge thank you goes out to the Pipe Band and to everyone who helped to make this annual event such a great success. TIDY TOWNS: The vibrant Millstreet group collected €1,750 for securing first place in their category of the Cork Co. Anti-Litter Competition. Members of Millstreet Tidy Towns Association attended a presentation ceremony in Cork County Hall with the prestigious award presented by County Mayor Cllr Tim Lombard. The recognition comes quickly after Millstreet's upsurge in the National Tidy Towns Awards winning a Bronze Medal. END OF SEASON TOURS: Jerry Lehane Summer tours are coming to an end and as a special treat, they are offering a mystery tour with a difference taking in some of the best that Cork and Kerry can offer including Glencar, the highlands of Kerry and the famous and most rugged mountain range, through the spectacular Ballaghbeama Gap, Black Valley and home through Co Cork. Beginners class runs from 3.55pm to 4.50pm and the Advanced class takes place from 4.50pm to 6pm. PILATES CLASSES: New Pilates classes start in the Wallis Arms Hotel, Millstreet on Tuesday, September 12 for a seven week duration. COACH TRIPS: A coach will travel to Knock on Sunday, September 18 for the Padre Pio Pilgrimage. Upcoming, Athy, County Kildare hosts the National P lough ing Championships and a coach travels each day from Septembee 20-22. DANCING: Popular dancing continues at the Darby O'Gills, Killarney on this Thursday night is to the Premier Blue Boys in addition to the popular Liam Cantillon and Southern Country Band. Dancing is from 8.30pm to midnight. AUBANE DANCING: The weekly set dancing session recommences in Aubane Community Centre on Monday, September 19 at 9.15pm. CULTUTRAL NIGHT: Friday, September 23 is designated Cultural Night where locals and visitors across the county can enjoy the unique experience of a free night of entertainment, discovery and adventure. For the first time, Cork County is participating with a range of events countywide. On Culture Night, museums, galleries, churches, historic houses, artists' studios and cultural centres will open their doors late into the evening welcoming people of all ages to taste and sample their cultural delights for free. Millstreet Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann put on a Night of Music, Song and Dance in Millstreet Town from 7pm. MACRA: Millstreet Macra held a successful pool tournament in Fleming's Bar Cullen on Friday last and will be hosting a similar competition in the near future. A pitch and putt league is underway in Millstreet from this Saturday at 3pm. Entrants can choose to compete in the one off competition on the day for €5 or both that and the ongoing league which is intended to run every fortnight (as long as the weather allows) for €6. The Millstreet Macra men's seven a side football team retained their regional title for the second year in a row after a hotly contested final in Éire Óg against Tere l ton . Congratulations to the side and best of luck in the National Finals next month. Hard luck to the ladies team who lost out in their semi-final. New members are always welcome to Millstreet Macra and at this time of year there are still loads of competitions and events upcoming so it is a great time to get involved. COFFEE MORNING AND EVENING: A coffee morning in aid of Marymount Hospice takes place in Millstreet GAA Community Hall on this Friday between 9.30am and 12.30pm. Meanwhile a coffee evening in aid of Marymount Hospice will also be held in Ballydaly Hall on this Thursday between 8 and 10pm. GAA: The first anniversary Mass in memory of former Millstreet GAA Chairman Tadhg Moynihan takes place in St. Patrick's Church, Millstreet on this Saturday at 6.30pm. MUSIC CLASSES: A new series of music classes have re-commenced in Cullen Community Centre on Mondays at 6pm. SET DANCING: Set Dancing is up and running in Ballydaly Hall on Wednesday, September 21 at 8.30pm. GRAMOPHONE CIRCLE: Millstreet Gramophone Circle host a presentation in Canon O'Donovan Centre on this Friday at 8.15pm. The theme is 'Members choice' so patrons are invited to bring along their own CD's. All are welcome t o attend. COMHALTHAS : Millstreet Comhalthas Ceolteoirí Eireann's popular music session have recommenced on Mondays between 6.30pm and 7.30pm in the Crèche Centre.
