Minors hold out for win

CLYDA ROVERS: Over the past week it's been the turn of our minor footballers to fly the flag in the Minor A Football Championship.

Clyda faced Charleville in the first game and this proved a very tight affair with Clyda getting four late points to hold out for their first win in the championship. The second game against Glanworth proved to be a cracker with Clyda holding out for a two point win, the minor team will either make the playoffs or the final depending on how the game goes against Mitchelstown.

The Premier Junior Hurling Semi Final is provisionally fixed for August 29 in BallyClough V Castletownroche and the Premier Inter Football Quarter Final is down for the following Week V Bantry Blues. We will know more next week about these fixtures.

The club also hosts the North Cork Junior A Football Championship Final between Churchtown and Mitchelstown and members are asked to make themselves available on the day.

Club GAA Draw: The Club GAA Draw will be launched shortly and club mentors and officials will be in Contact.

JUVENILE GAA: Under 12: Clyda u12 hurlers played Kildorrery in the quarter final of the championship on Monday night in Carrigoon. The opening half saw Clyda getting two goals, one each from Gavin Dennehy and James Buckley and four points from Conor Roche, giving Clyda a lead of 2-4 to 0-4 at half time.

Kildorrery opened the scoring in the second half with a goal, before Clyda replied with a point from a Conor Roche free and a point from Sean O'Shea. Kildorrery were to get two further goals, but Clyda proved too strong, and with a goal from Tim Buckley and the very strong Gavin Dennehy, and points from Conor Roche, Clyda ran out worthy winners on a scoreline of 4-9 to 3-6. TIMOLEAGUE HARVEST FESTIVAL: Clyda u14 hurlers were invited by Timoleague to play them in the John Desmond Cup as part of their Harvest Festival on last Sunday evening in Timoleague.

Paul Holland presented team captain Sean O'Connor with the John Desmond Cup, and each player was presented with a trophy.

John Roche, chairman of the senior club thanked Timoleague for inviting Clyda down. A return game is promised for the near future. It was then off to the local carnival, where great fun was had by all!

BOTTLEHILL LANDFILL: EPA Last Chance Objections: Submissions to the EPA regarding Cork County Council's application for Technical Amendment to the W0161-01 Bottlehill Landfill with regard to the baling of waste need to be sent to Mr. Brian Meaney, Senior Inspector, Environmental Protection Agency, PO Box 3000, Johnstown Castle Estate, Co. Wexford. Submissions need to be send asap as there is not a set time frame laid down for such technical amendment applications.

WEDDING BELLS: Congratulations to Marguerite Harold of Clashmorgan, and Alex Grassick of Mallow, who were married recently in Analeentha Church, and held their reception in Springfort Hall, where they were joined by a large crowd of family and friends. We wish them many happy years of happiness together in their new home in Clashmorgan!
