MUNSTER SUPREMO VISITS KANTURK UNDER AGE RUGBY PLAYERS: Munster Rugby's head coach Tony McGahan came to Kanturk last Wednesday to present the victorious Kanturk RFC U15 team with their South Munster Cup winners medals.

Kanturk won the cup last April after defeating Cork Con in an epic final in Musgrave Park. This win was the highlight of a terrific season which saw this team controversially lose out on a unique league and cup double. O'Callaghan's Toyota showrooms hosted the reception, at which friends and families of the players gathered to hear club president Jack McCarthy and director of rugby Tony Daly pay tribute to the players and their achievements.

Tony Daly commented on the work ethic and dedication of the entire squad, which was made up of players from all over the Duhallow region and thanked in particular the parents and guardians of the players for their support throughout the season.

Tony McGahan addressed the gathering after presenting the boys with their medals and spoke of the bond created within a team that achieves success of this nature.

He remarked that it was vital for this team to stay competing at the highest level and for the club to push more players through the youths system, who one day may follow in Irish international and Munster prop Tony Buckley's footsteps who started his career at Kanturk RFC. After posing for pictures and before departing Mr McGahan quipped that the next time he sees the boys he hoped that it would be in the red of Munster on another famous Thomond Park evening.

With the new season approaching training at all age grades will be starting shortly, details will be posted in the press and local news outlets and schools throughout Duhallow. New members and players are always welcome at the club.

COFFEE MORNING: In conjunction with the "24 hour Hurling Marathon" in aid of Mallow General Hospital, the Daily Grind will be holding a coffee morning and bake sale on Saturday, September 4 from 10am to 1pm. All support would be greatly appreciated for this worthy cause. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CORK M INORS : Congratulations to the Cork Minor Football team who qualified for the All Ireland Final with their one point win over Galway in a very exciting semi final. Local Kanturk clubman Jerome Walsh is one of the selectors of the Cork team and the group of selectors have put in some great work with this team and now they are in the final against Tyrone. All-Ireland Sunday will be a very big day for the Walsh family as Jeromes nephew, Aidan will be a member of the senior team on the day. FÉILE DÚTHALLA: Féile Dúthalla's National Heritage Weekend Programme of Events held last weekend in a number of locations in Duhallow was a tremendous success.

The Talks Series in Kanturk was well supported (approx 78 attending) and the discussion was interesting and lively, with many expressing the wish to return next year for more of the same. Local B&B's reported steady trade and the music sessions were well attended. The concert at Bob's Upstairs Bar on Saturday night and the session in The White Country Inn in Banteer on Sunday were both lively and the entertainment provided memorable and of a very high calibre. The bus tour on Clara Mountain conducted by Fr Seán Tucker and the picnic at Kilmeady Castle were very well received and the 40 or so adults and children who went on the tour were not disappointed on a beautiful sunny autumnal sunday.

To all those who came for the weekend events, from Morocco, Malahide, Dublin, Derry, Kerry, Cork, London, Lismire, Kilkenny, Cillairne, Belfast and beyond, a heartfelt thanks.

During the weekend Féile Dúthalla 2010 received a cheque by way of donation from Kanturk Festival Group to the tune of €780, a very welcome boost to the Féile coffers and sincerest thanks to those involved in that organisation for their generosity. A huge thank you to those who gave donations and sponsorship, without which we would not have been able to stage all the events, and especially to the many who facilitated our functions and bus tour etc. A full report on the weekend festival is available at www. feileduthalla. com and another full programme of events is planned for November 19 to 22. Watch this space. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir. Féile Dúthalla 2010 Admin. KANTURK SOCCER CLUB NEWS: Kanturk B's got off to a great start in AUL Division Three with a 3–2 away win over near neighbours Los Zarcos in Millstreet last Tuesday night. Conceding a penalty in the 1st minute, Kanturk fought back to level matters on 20 minutes only to go behind again ten minutes later. Brian Barry levelled again just before half time with a curling ball direct from the corner to add to Ian Winters strike from 20 yards earlier. 2–2 at half time but Kanturk upped the pace early in the second half and Ian Winters skipped through the home defence and around the advancing keeper to slot home his second goal of the night. Possibly tiring Kanturk were hanging on in the last ten minutes, but held out for a memorable win. Michael Bowman, Ronan Sheehan and Brendan Mullane were rock solid for the B's.

Kanturk B's hosted newly formed Newmarket last Sunday morning in their second league match and were unlucky to lose 1–0. Playing with a stiff breeze in the first half, Kanturk created several chances but failed to put any away; 0–O at half time. Newmarket were on top early in the second half forcing three or four corners, which resulted in one being converted with a free header at the far post. Kanturk tried hard but couldn't breach the Newmarket defence and were left to rue the missed chances of the first half.

Kanturk A team hit the ground running with an impressive 5–1 win over Village United in the "Mossie Linnane Cup" group C match away in the City last Saturday. Village took the lead early but as the game was moving on, Kanturk were getting the upper hand in all areas and finished very strongly. The goal scorers were John Dennehy, two and one each to Leonard Barry, Jamie Hawe and Colin Stack.

Kanturk's "new kids on the block" (U11's) had their first ever outing in competitive soccer away to Kinsale last Sunday morning and came home with a 3–3 draw. Sean O'Brien scored one and Cameron Hendry scored two and was also Kanturk's man of the match.
