DUCON CUP: Lyre finally got their Ducon cup campaign facing in a positive direction with a win over Kanturk at the weekend. A game which they well deserved the two points from, started well after an opportunist goal from Jack Roche on five minutes after a misplaced shot from his brother Denis. The only other score of the half coming on the 13th minute from Ger Mannix, indeed it was the defence of both teams which prevailed in the opening 30 with Martin Kearney and Coleman Mannix displaying some effective work.

In a 4-4 thrilling draw Kanturk were three goals down after 25 minutes, but goals from John Dennehy and Tom Fitzgibbon made it 3-2 at half time. Five minutes into the second half Castleview scored a fourth goal but again Kanturk came back strong and goals from Tom Fitzgibbon and Mattie O'Riordan secured a precious point for Kanturk, which could be very important by the end of the season. Heartstopping stuff.
