U16 secure c'ship final appearance

DROMTARIFFE U16 FOOTBALLERS PROCEEED TO CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL: On Saturarday last Dromtariffe u16 played Millstreet in the championship semi-final in Cullen. Aided by a strong breeze in the first half they went in losing by 17 to 9 pts. With excellent free taking and strong defence Dromtariffe went ahead scoring 2 goals and a number of points. A strong panel playing well to finish out comfortable winners, winning by 4pts. They are now playing Tomas Russell in the final with date to be set.

BOWLING NOTES: Sarah Murphy, Ballyclough advances to the final of the Munster u-12 girls championship at the expence of Marie Lynch of the Gaeltacht in a score played at Donoughmore.

Murphy shaded the early exchanges. It was Lynch who led on the third exchange. She had some 10 metres to her credit at the long wall. She increased her lead with here next few exchanges. However, Murphy upped the ante to take over the lead in the middle of the score. She converted her lead into a bowl of odds. But the Gaeltacht girl entered the fray with some good bowling to force it to a last shot play-off. However, Murphy had enough in hand to take her place in the final.

In the final Sarah Murphy, Ballyclough grasped a last shot victory over Maria Nagle of Rosscarbery in what was a highly entertaining Munster u-12 score played at Clondrohid. The opening shot went to Nagle with Murphy edging in front with her second up the hill. Nagle produced a good third shot to take over the lead again. Murphy played a great 5th bowl to the Graveyard, but Nagle beat the tip by 10 metres. The Roscarberry girl with the aid of a brilliant shot up the hill rose almost a bowl of odds. However, Murphy entered the fray with an excellent bowl to Teerbeg Cross to reduce the lead to under 10 metres. She went to the front to take a lead of 20 metres in the next exchange. The lead changed hands again on the straight. It went to the wire with Murphy taking the verdict by some 5 metres.

Macroom was the venue for the Murray's Bar Social Club doubles competitions. Three finals were up for grabs in the A, B, C sections. In the A-Final Michael Coakley and Denny Paul Bradley did the business when they recorded a last shot win over Alan O Shea and David Crowley and had also a last shot win over Niall Murphy and Brian Kiely.

The B-Final was a family affair with the Burnís Brothers beating John Manning and Peter Healy in a last shot play-off. The Burnís, Darren and Peter were very consistant through out the score to put their name up on the leader board.

The C-Fianl was also a last shot affair with Donie O Callaghan and Pat Spillane giving it their all to take the title against Dillon Dineen and Darren Crowley. A total of Ä2,000 was raised for the Muskerry Special Olympicís and Macroom Community Hospital.

At Ballinacurra, Derry Cooney, Kilcorney beat Mick Murphy Innishannon by the smallest of margins in a closely contested score.

DEATHS: The death occured recently of Paddy Horgan of Rylane, a member of a well known bowling family he was a great follower of the sport and travelled many a road with the Rylane Bowlers. The bowling fraternity would like to extend their deepest sympathies to his family and many friends. May he rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the Lyons family Burnfort, Mallow on their very sad bereavement.

DROMTARIFFE G.A.A. LOTTO DRAW RESULTS: Winning Numbers were 11,12,14 and 24 and the jackpot of €13,100 was not won.
