Under 16 glory for Dromtariffe

CONGRATULATIONS: To Dromtarriffe U16 A Footballers who defeated Tomas Russell's ( Kilshannig) in the North Cork U16 A football final on Saturday. Well done to all players and management.

Dromtariffe eased passed Kilshannig last Saturday morning in Newmarket with a score of 3-8 to 1-6 to win out the Northern Division A championship U16 football final. With a cross field breeze, Derry Long proved strong in goals bringing off a fine penalty save.

Defence holding up very strong taking total control by an impressive back line of Michael O'Brien, Gavin Downey and Colm Fitzpatrick. The half back line working hard and attacking strong were Padraig O' Callaghan, Daniel Vaughan and Donagh O' Shea.

The three midfield boys winning midfield and pushing foward lead by Denis O'Donoghue, Sean Cremin and Aaron Daly (captain). Dromtariffe went in at half time with a lead of 1-5 to two points.

Scores coming from foward goals from James Bourke, Stephen O'Keeffe and Denis O'Donoghue pushing on our lead, well assisted by Peadar Duggan, Mark O'Connor and Michael Healy. Our substitutes also had a good impact Shane O'Leary, Michael O'Callaghan, Jack Buckley and Conor Cremin. Aaron Daly accepted the cup on behalf of his Dromtariffe team. They now proceed to represent the club in the county.

Congratulations also to the Dromtarriffe Junior A football side who defeated Lyre in the Ducon Cup Final replay in Rathcoole last Saturday. A great team performance brought home the much needed silverware to the club. Many congratulations to all the players and the management.

Dromtariffe U12 girls are into the county semi-final after defeating St Colemans on a score line of Dromtariffe 3-04 to St Colemans 103.

Dromtarriffe GAA wish to thank all who helped in anyway with the hosting of the Duhallow Finals either before, during or after the event - the success of our hosting was due to the great support received from Dromtarriffe members.

IMPORTANT PUBLIC MEETING: Public Meeting in Dromtarriffe Community Hall on Thursday, September 29, at 8pm sharp. Professional guest speakers will be there on the night to speak on the following: security, health and safety in the home for the elderly, loneliness and isolation, heating and food, and many other topics concerning the welfare and comforts of our most treasured senior citizens.

It is very important that we encourage any one living alone and in a remote and isolated place to attend this meeting and indeed anyone who feels vulnerable to the undesirables out there.

We encourage as many as possible from each townlands in the parish's of Dromtarriffe and Kilcorney to attend.

Please spread the word as we owe this to our senior citizens. Let us put something back into their lives for the peace of mind they deserve in their own homes.

SCRAP METAL REMINDER: Scrap Metal collection on this Saturday between 12pm and 3 pm at the Dromtariffe Community Hall. CONGRATULATIONS: Congratulations to Mrs Margaret McCormack on winning the Dromtariffe GAA Lotto jackpot of €13,200 drawn at Caroline's Bar on Saturday night last. Margaret correctly predicted the winning combination. The ticket was bought at Tarrantís Bar Millstreet.

The Jackpot now reverts back to €2,000 which will take place at The Outback. The following were the winning numbers and the consolation prize money. Winning Numbers were 4, 7, 11 and 18.

The consolation prizes were: €20 to each of the following: Conor Linehan The Outback, Ger Collins c/o Caroines, Aoife and Spud c/o Caroline's and Louise O'Sullivan Boherbue.

€10 to each of the following: Carol O'Leary, Keim; Denis O'Donoghue, Bolomore; Billy Murphy c/o F Barry; Niall Buckley, Glenleigh and Eoin O'Callaghan, Dooneen.

Next draw at The Outback and the jackpot will be €2,000.

BOWLING NOTES: Danny Murphy Kilcorney had a bowl of odds to spare over Timmy Barry of Carrigaline in the Munster Vintage Championship played at Carrignavar. It was Barry who had the better of the starts, but

DROMTARIFFE ICA: Dromtariffe ICA will hold their first meeting of the new season on Tuesday, September 27, at 8pm in the Parish Hall. All members please attend and new member welcome.

SYMPATHY: Sympathy is extended to the family of the late Margaret Mc Carthy late of Scagh, Boherbue. She is deeply regretted by her husband Denis, daughters Deirdre, Denise and Miriam, son Eoin, sister Bernadette, extended family relatives and friends. Burial took place following requiem Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception Boherbue to Boherbue Cemetery. May she rest in peace. the Kilcorney man edged his way into the score to take over the lead and rise a bowl of odds at the creamery.

From here to the finish the score revolved around the bowl of odds.

Sympathy: The death occured recently of John Coughlan of Roberts Cove. Very involved with the Roberts Cove club he was a great follower of the sport. He often went beyond the call of duty and nothing was too much trouble for him. A gentleman to his fingertips, he will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. May he rest in peace.

NEAR END OF SEASON SPECIAL: Jerry Lehane summer tours are coming to an end and as a special treat we are ofering a mystery tour with a difference taking in some of the best that Cork and Kerry can offer encluding Glencar the highlands of Kerry and the famous and most rugged mountain range, through the spectacular Ballaghbeama Gap, Black Valley and home through our beloved County Cork. This too will be a mystery tour.

Bring along your camera and binoculars because this will be a trip not to be forgotten complete with tea, scones and lunch. We hope you can make the trip but we will give first call to our friends who have travelled with us all year. We won't disappoint any one if we can and will put on a second bus if required.
