MILLSTREET will meet popular requests on the staging of an Autumn Walking festival on this Saturday.

In a follow up to a similar staging earlier in the year, patrons are warmed by an area encapsulated by a backdrop of a fascinating landscape that's a paradise for those interested in walking. Saturday's walks will cater for all levels of walking enthusiasms. A long walk follows in the footsteps of the O'Sullivan Beare march from Ballyvourney to Millstreet. .

The Claragh Loop is a moderate walk from Millstreet to the summit of Clara Mountain and allows the opportunity to view the magnificent view of the Blackwater Valley and the Derrynasaggart Mountains on the Cork/Kerry border.

A shorter walk takes in the Mountleader Trail allowing patrons access through mature woodlands to emerge and view panoramic views of Musheramore, Coomatrush Waterfall and Millstreet's hinterland.

Promoted by the Millstreet Tourism Association, the venture offers an ideal opportunity to experience the autumn landscape that Millstreet and its environs. Organisers are confident that the event will attract large numbers to sample the culture, heritage and natural beauty of a proud region.

BEST FRONTAGE AWARDS: Millstreet Tidy Tows and Tourism Association acknowledged the contribution of private dwellers and business in a their popular local best frontage competition.

A sustained commitment by a number of dwellers and commercial outlets helped to maintain a strong Millstreet tidy towns spirit. Favoured by reasonable weather all summer, Millstreet residents contributed significantly with hanging baskets, flourishing flower beds and freshly painted premises.

Chairman Colman Culhane paid tribute to all concerned involved in the competition that helps boost Millstreet's cause in the national tidy towns and related projects organised by Cork County Council and Muintir na Tíre.

Independent adjudicators faced a stiff task and that was confirmed at an official presentation in the Wallis Arms Hotel.

Taking the best overall prize in the residential category was Margaret Smith of Murphy's Terrace. Also figuring prominently in this category were Paddy and Helen Sheehan, Murphy's Terrace; Michael and Joan Sheehan, Minor Row; Patrick Hickey, Murphy's Terrace and Mary Murray O'Callaghan, Woodlawn Drive.

The business and commercial category award belonged to Millstreet Credit Union. Millstreet TTTA Chairman Colman Culhane extended thanks to all concerned on maintaining the concept of the competition.

More business outlets were encouraged to become involved to portray a positive image of the town where a determined effort is required to keep up the standards if further inroads are to made in national and county competitions.

Thanks were extended to co-ordinator Roger Cresswell and adjudicator Philip Jones from Venture One. Organisers expect the competition to return in 2012 bigger and brighter with hopefully more favourable weather. COUNTRY PARK: Millstreet Country Park is beautiful all year long, but in the autumn, it's spectacular. Autumn's crisp chill and vibrant colorations provide the perfect backdrop for a visit to Millstreet Country Park.

With the Park's season about to come to a close on Sunday October 2, patrons can enjoy the spectacular scenery and countryside, the gardens and lakeside walks.

Whether looking for something for the whole family or looking to entertain your guests, Millstreet Country Park has something for everyone, open daily during September from 10am to 7pm.

Lots of entertainment for the whole family this weekend –walking trails, our Autumn changing gardens, guided tours with Donie and Shane on the safari buggy, outdoor activities for children and parents , shuffle board, outdoor chess and draughts, duck racing and much more.

All Fall Foliage Tours to Millstreet Country Park include a guided tour of the estate on the in park transporter buggy's with entertaining and experienced guides. At this time of year the foliage is spectacular and the glorious autumn scenery offer an inspiration. The park is ideal for cycling too so why not bring your bike. . END OF SEASON TOURS: Jerry Lehane Summer tours are coming to an end and as a special treat, they are offering a mystery tour with a difference taking in some of the best that Cork and Kerry can offer including Glencar, the highlands of Kerry and the famous and most rugged mountain range, through the spectacular Ballaghbeama Gap, Black Valley and home through County Cork.

Bring along your camera and binoculars because this will be a trip not to be forgotten complete with tea, scones and lunch Patrons are invited to make the trip but first call to regular friends who have travelled all year. However, no one will be disappointed for a second bus is available if required

GAA: Millstreet referee Denis Twomey and his dedicated team officiated at the Duhallow Junior A Football Championship Final between Kanturk and Rockchapel at Dromtariffe last Saturday.

On Sunday, in the Duhallow Junior B Hurling Championship, Millstreet are away to Kanturk with a 1pm throw in.

DAY CARE CENTRE: Millstreet Day Care Centre provides a meal service for those who are not in a position to cook regularly for themselves. The centre caters for diabetics, coeliacs, low fat and other special diets.

Meals comprising soup, dinner and dessert can be booked on a long or short term basis and delivered piping hot to the subscriber's door. AUBANE DANCING: The weekly set dancing session has recommenced in Aubane Community Centre on Monday, September 19 at 9.15pm. CULTURE NIGHT: Friday, September 23 is designated cultural night where locals and visitors across the county can enjoy the unique experience of a free night of entertainment, discovery and adventure.

For the first time, Cork County is participating with a range of events countywide.

On Culture Night, museums, galleries, churches, historic houses, artists' studios and cultural centres will open their doors late into the evening welcoming people of all ages to taste and sample their cultural delights for free. Millstreet Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann put on a Night of Music, Song and Dance in Millstreet Town from 7pm.

SPECIAL NEEDS AGM: The AGM of Cullen and District Special Needs Association takes place on Monday, September 26 at 8pm in Cullen Community Centre. All are welcome to attend. COOKERY COURSE: Millstreet Community School present a new series titled 'Frankly Cooking' by Frank Moynihan Cookery School. Enrolment takes place on Thursday, October 6 at 8pm for a four week course. COLLECTION: Millstreet Pipe Band host their Annual Church gate collection this Saturday and Sunday. The support of the public is appreciated.

MILLSTREET GAA: Unwanted used clothing which are in neat, clean in good and wearable or sought. It's a Millstreet GAA Club fundraiser seeking a collection of new and used clothing on Friday, September 30 (9am-1pm) and Saturday, October 1st (11am-1pm and 6-8pm) in Millstreet GAA Community Hall.

Accepted will be unwanted clothing, footwear, handbags, stuffed toys with mobile phones also sought but presented in a separate bag.

BALLYDALY CARDS: The seasonal Ballydaly 45 Card Drive series commences on Sunday night at 9pm. Regular patrons and new friends are invited to come along. AUBANE HISTORICAL SOCIETY: The Aubane Historical Society are exhibiting at the Annual Family Heritage Festival Celebrating Cork Past Exhibition at an opening in the Millennium Hall, City Hall on Friday, September 30.

In this unique exhibition, over 40 heritage organizations from all over Cork City and County will come together to showcase the rich colourful heritage, tradition and culture of their area in a series of fascinating educational exhibits and artefacts.

At this day-long family friendly exhibition, visitors can leisurely browse through the wealth of history on display and discover the exciting work being carried out by these enthusiastic voluntary heritage groups in their communities.

A Heritage Festival on the pulse of the past with a view to the future, the warm friendly welcome at the Celebrating Cork Past Exhibition is sure to put a smile on patrons.
