Weather plays a big role in a hard-fought draw
KISKEAM GAA: Mallow supplied the opposition for Kiskeam Intermediate Football Team in round 2 of the Kelleher Shield Div 2 played in Kiskeam on Sunday March 7 last.
With a win already under their belt from Round 1, hopes were high that Kiskeam could add to the two points secured at the hands of Aghada the previous time but Mallow had other ideas.
A highly influential wind aided Kiskeam in the first half of ten, hampering the best efforts of Mallow, leaving Kiskeam with a four point cushion on a score line of 0-8 to 0-0 at the interval.
However roles were then reversed in the second half and Mallow enjoyed the wind at their back allowing them to pick away at Kiskeam's lead.
Both sides undoubtedly had spells of dominance throughout and it was only a matter of time before Mallow brought the contest to priority. It took the very most of the last 30 minutes for them to achieve this and with a score line of Kiskeam 011 to Mallow 1-8 the final whistle sounded.
Both teams may feel disappointed not to take the spoils but on a day that the weather played such a pivotal role, neutrals would have to agree that a draw was a fair result in a highly entertaining contest.
The Kiskeam Intermediate Footballers are now scheduled to play Mayfield in round 3 on the week ending March 28 next in Mayfield GAA ground. Kiskeam U21 Footballers are scheduled to play Knocknagree in round 3 of the Duhallow A U21 Championship on Friday, March 12 next in Knocknagree at 8pm.
