A JEEP stolen in Knocknagree on Tuesday morning was later used to ram "straight through the doors" of O'Keeffe's supervalu in Millstreet, but the raiders fled empty handed as the targeted ATM was empty.

Sergeant Jerry Carmody, Millstreet, said "there absolutely was a considerable amount of noise" in the town when the stolen Mitsubishi was driven through the doors, as it resulted in glass flying everywhere and the alarm being activated.

It's understood there were two or possibly three people involved in the raid and they wore dark clothing and had their heads covered. The jeep was stolen in Knocknagree village at approximately 4.30am and driven about 12k to Millstreet as a separate "large black car" travelled ahead.

The jeep was rammed through the Supervalu doors at 5.07am. The Supervalu is based at Minor Row in the town and there are a number of residential properties nearby.

"The ramming of a jeep through the doors would have caused considerable noise. We're asking anyone who was in the area from 4.30am until 5.30am to make contact with Millstreet Gardai or Kanturk Garda Station," said Sgt Carmody. Gardai are also studying CCTV footage and conducting house to house inquiries. The silver-grey jeep had the registration 91 C 14794.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact Millstreet Garda Station on 029-70002 or Kanturk Garda Station on 02951200.
