Barrys join the best in the business

A MALLOW company that won a national award for its superior business performance celebrated its great success at a prestigious ceremony. Barry Group in Mallow was among 20 businesses that were recognised by business advisory firm Deloitte for their superior business performance.
The group which is one of the country's major wholesale and distribution companies was judged on a broad range of criteria. These included strategy, capability, commitment, financials and growth potential across all key functions of the business.
The winners came from a variety of industries throughout Ireland including the tourism, hospitality, technology, food and beverage, medical, automotive, wholesale, distribution and logistics sectors.
Speaking at the awards, Taoiseach Brian Cowen said: "In today's challenging business environment, Irish companies and their management teams need to be more entrepreneurial, ambitious, creative and skilled than ever before. Indeed, for our companies competing in global markets, worldclass management teams are absolutely critical to achieving success."
Barry Group, which heads Costcutter stores throughout the country, has been part of a major fundraising endeavour raising 225,000 for Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin since its involvement in 2007.
Costcutter customers raised 25,000 for Crumlin Children's Hospital by purchasing specially designed candles over the Christmas period. The money will assist a 'Home from Home' building that provides accommodation for the families of sick children in hospital.
Presenting the €25,000 cheque recently to Crumlin Children's Hospital, Niall Hartnett, HR and Logistics with the Barry Group in Mallow, said: "The Home from Home building is a wonderful initiative from Our Lady's Children's Hospital and thanks to a great response from our customers, we are thrilled to be able to assist in the running of the home."
