Board gets € 70k to create jobs
NORTH Cork Enterprise Board is set to receive a windfall of over € 70,000 in Government funding which will be put towards the creation of eight new jobs -- some of which could be filled before Christmas.
NCEB Manager Michael Hanley said that the funding was very welcome.
"This will go towards projects we have in the pipeline. We will be drawing down the money before Christmas and putting it towards a number of manufacturing and processing projects we have coming," he said.
"It's a direct response to monies that we require and requested and so the manner by which the government is responding is positive," he said.
The funding, totalling €73, 957, was announced on Wednesday with an overall allocation of over €240,000 approved for Cork city and county.
Junior Enterprise Minister Sean Sherlock said the funding is provided in response to specific requests from County Enterprise Boards and is in addition to the €15 million already provided to CEBs in 2011.
"The County and City Enterprise Boards around the country have a key role to play in providing much-needed capital for these businesses. This year a number of CEBs have indicated that they would not have sufficient funding to respond to the needs of start-ups in their area and so the Department sought to make savings in other areas to provide funding for these vital businesses," said Minister Sherlock.
Local TD Tom Barry also welcomed the allocation.
" We must do everything possible to encourage start-up and expanding Irish businesses as our indigenous industry and our entrepreneurs are the key to future economic recovery and success.
"The County and City Enterprise Boards – including the North Cork Enterprise Board - have a key role to play in providing much-needed capital for these businesses. It is very encouraging that 28 CEBs has sufficient demand from projects in their area to justify these requests, and this shows that the start-up spirit is alive and well in Ireland," he said.
