Bottled water on tap
Thursday July 30 2009
PEOPLE are paying for bottled water that, in fact, comes from a tap.
Monday's county council meeting heard that three companies producing bottled water are taking their water from public supplies. And Concern was expressed that the Department of Health, the Food Safety Authority and the Health Service Executive have not revealed the names of the companies.
Cllr Dermot Sheehan said the council should ensure that bottled water sold in the county is safe.
"I urge this chamber to do everything we possibly can to assure the residents of our county that the water they purchase is safe, and in the times that we live that they are not being ripped off.
County Manager, Martin O'Riordan, said he found it 'remarkable' that people still buy bottled water in spite of the high standard of water supplied by the council.
