THE entire proceeds of Clyda Rovers GAA Club's All-Ireland fundraising draw have been presented by the club to Mourneabbey Community Council for the development of the community complex in the village. This partnership started nine years ago when the club approached the community of Mourneabbey to redevelop the community centre.
The partnership has benefited both and after nine years the main aspects of the development are nearing completion.
The latest donation by Clyda Rovers of €6,000 will be going into the further development of the second pitch where by new fencing has been installed recently.
Speaking at the presentation on Monday night last, Mourneabbey Community Council Chairman Noel Sullivan thanked Clyda Rovers for the donation.
"We in the community council are most grateful for the continued backing and co-operation Clyda Rovers gives us as we near completion in our development," he said.
"Over €1.3million has been spent to date and we have one final push to finish the walkway and refurbishment of the hall with our night at the dogs," he said.
Fergal Cronin, on behalf of Clyda Rovers, thanked all the members and businesses who helped raise the money.
"In tough times making this amount of money in two weeks of selling lines was brilliant and we thank all who worked on it," he said. "We in Clyda Rovers are delighted to support the community council and hope all our members help out with the up and coming dog night that takes place next year".
The community council fundraising night at the dogs takes place on Saturday, February 6 and tickets are currently being distributed throughout the parish.
