Club fest will be 'rocktastic'
WHAT do you get if you mix one legendary Irish band with one of Cork's most talented new musical acts and add a dash of South American rock rhythm.
The answer? All the key ingredients for one truly fantastic day of summer fun.
Following from the success of last year's inaugural one-day event, Kanturk Rugby Club has again pulled out all the stops to put together a mouthwatering array of acts for the Rocktastic 2011 festival.
The event will again be held in the club's grounds at Knocknacolon on Saturday, July 2 with organisers promising the festival will be "bigger and better" than last year with "more music, more entertainment and more fun".
The stellar line up will feature up coming Cork band UV5 and special guests Panamanian rockers The Vox who will be making their Irish debut in Kanturk.
With three albums under their belt, The Vox enjoy a huge following in their home country and have toured extensively across Central and South America. The gig in Kanturk will mark the opening of their extensive European summer tour.
Headlining the festival will be veteran Dublin band Bagatelle, who are still packing in the crowds at venues across the country since topping the charts in 1978 with the classic Summer in Dublin. With their melodic rock sound and with a strong lyrical content, Bagatelle have captured a huge slice of classic rock history with songs including Leeson Street Lady, Second Violin and Love is the Reason.
Red FMs spinmaster supreme, the incomparable Philip Bourke, will also be on hand throughout the evening providing links between the live acts and plying tunes in to the wee hours.
Tickets for the festival cost €15 and are available from McCarthy's Butchers, The Alley Bar, Kelly's Bar and at the door. For full details of the festival visit www.kanturkrugby.com
