Funding for community groups' activities

THE Kanturk Electoral Area will see various organisations and sporting clubs' coffers being lifted to the tune of just shy of €34,000 for the coming year.

At last week's Northern Area meeting, 12 clubs and organisations were given the green light to get money from the tight coffers of Cork County Council. Three clubs have each been given the lion's share of €4,432 each — Lismore Community Council for the installation of a kitchen and floor covering; Millstreet Community Council will get the same amount for the purchase of equipment and Newmarket Community Development Association will also get €4,432 for the purchase of a mower.

Foiloghohig Development Association will also get €4,431 for the upgrade of a water system and the installation of lights around the community centre.

Next in line is Kilbrin Community Graveyard Association who will get €3,896 to purchase equipment and materials.

Ballydesmond handball club are also in line for €3,824.

Other associations in line for funding include Banteer Community Centre, €1,680 for alternations in the gym area and repairs to a leak in the roof.

Charleville Town lights committee will get €428 for the purchase of four new Christmas lights.

Newmarket Tidy Towns will get €1,680 for the refurbishment of the wall from the grotto the co-op.
