LETTERS: Lobbying campaign to retain services in community sector
Related Articles
Dear Public Representative, The Communities Against Cuts campaign is a group made up of constituents and national organisations who are greatly concerned with suggested cuts to the community sector as recommended under the McCarthy report.
The group consists of ICTU, SIPTU, IMPACT and Unite Trade Unions with union trades councils from across the country supporting our local communities.
The campaign group also includes the Community Sector Employers Forum, PLANET the community platform, the community workers co-op, the National Women's Council and the National Community Development Forum, to name but a few.
The proposed cuts will have a devastating effect on many of the facilities presently benefiting our local communities nationally.
We are very much aware, from our members and volunteers, that many community facilities are already under great pressure to provide the much needed community services. However, with the introduction of further cuts many will no longer be in a position to fully provide services or indeed to remain operational under the cuts.
We are requesting, that you, in your capacity as an elected representative lobby both publicly and within your party to support your communities against the cuts.
We would ask that you also lobby the Minister for Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and the Minister for Finance to engage in direct negotiations in relation to the future of the Community Sector, before Budgetary decisions are finalised.
Finally, we are intending to publish the details of all those who responded to our communities call for help and as such we would ask you to pledge your support and post back the pledge in the FREEPOST envelope provided.
