Man to face assault trial
A 23 year-old Mallow man who is charged with assault causing harm will have a book of evidence served on him by March, Judge Olann Kelleher was told on Tuesday.
At a sitting of Mallow District court, Inspector Senan Ryan said he was alleging "a very serious assault," happened to an injured party on September 17, 2011 at the Marakibo Bar, Bank Place, Mallow.
Insp Ryan said the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed a trial by indictment on Murray Hallinan of Ballyrushion, Castlecor, Mallow.
Insp Ryan said Mr Hallinan was on station bail. He said the book of evidence would need some time to prepare.
Mr Hallinan is also charged with the production of an article in the course of a dispute, contrary to Section 11 of the Firearms and Offences Weapons Act, 1990.
Solicitor Barry Murphy applied for and was granted free legal aid.
The case is due back to Mallow District court for a book of evidence to be served on March 13, 2012.
