A GROUP of well known musicians based in the Múscrai gaeltacht are about to embark on a novel new project to beat the recession.

The formation of the bi-lingual musicians' collective, 'Music from Muskerry – Ceol ó Mhúscraí', aims to show how people can work together to overcome shared difficulties.

Members of Ceol ó Mhúscraí intend to pool their creative resources and distribute their CDs throughout the country through a wide network of bookshops.

Peadar O' Riada, a spokesperson for the group, explained: "This is a very new and exciting idea. It has great potential and besides the distribution we have a website www.ceolomhuscrai.net connecting all our various websites, which feature news of concerts, recordings, on-line sales, collaborations and other work. The presence of this music in the bookshops also offers a viable alternative for those interested in buying music who perhaps do not shop on-line."

The formation of Music from Muskerry – Ceol ó Mhúscraí, will be celebrated with a launch concert in Macroom's Briery Gap Art's Centre on Friday, March 20 at 8.30pm. Proceeds on the night will go to the Paediatric Luekemia unit of the Mercy Hospital.

Artists from the collective include Sean O' Sé, Máire Ní Cheocháin Ó Crualaí, Peadar O'Riada, Fiona Kelleher, Noel Shine and Mary Greene, Ger Wolfe, Jim Murray, Máire Ní Chéilleachair, The Abbey Céilí band, Connie O'Connell, Fiontán O'Meachair, Eibhlís Ni Súilleabháin, Cóir na mBan, Conal O'Gráda, Hammy Hamilton and Cór Cúil Aodha.

Tickets for the launch cost €15 and are available from The Briery Gap booking office (026) 42421 brierygapbo@eircom.net
