THE AXING of the West Cork presenter on C103fm, last week, has left North Cork radio host Patricia Messenger holding the fort for the entire county.
David Young has been the presenter of West Cork Today for the past five years, but last Thursday he gave his last broadcast, in what has been seen as a cost-cutting measure at County Cork's leading radio station. This follows a pattern over the past two years that has seen the station move from two to a single drive time programme and one evening show; in both cases, there were previously separate shows for North and West Cork.
CEO of Cork 96Fm and C103 Mr Kieran McGeary said "for the moment" he doesn't envisage further changes or cuts being made. However, he did say that the medium of radio was "changing all the time," and management reviewed their broadcasting procedures on a continuous basis.
