APRIL
COUNTRY Park re-opens for Mothers Day. Millstreet puts its best foot forward this week on hosting its first ever hill walking festival. Large crowds attend Holy Week and Easter Ceremonies.
The annual Easter Commemoration takes place at the monument situated in the Town Square, the 84th anniversary of the commemoration attended by guest speaker Tom Lane. Aubane Community Council host Table Quiz. Vintage enthusiasts from throughout the country convened into the Green Glens Complex on Easter Sunday for the spectacular hosting by the Millstreet Vintage Club.upwards of 600 mega variety exhibits added to the interest and even the weather didn't disappoint to allow a great atmosphere for the Millstreet Vintage and Family Fun Day.
Easter Bonnet Fashion Show took place at Presentation NS. Sarah Meaney host Cake Sale to assist her travels to Romania in aid of the very worthy oragnisation ' Comber' which works for a future without orphanages. Actor JD Kelleher plays part on Irish language soap Ros na Rún. Millstreet Community School Transition Year students present a Spring/summer Fashion Show in the School Gymnasium in aid of Headway (Brain Injury Service), RNLI ( The Lifeboat Service) and the Neo-natal Unit, CUH.
The Irish Mountain Running Association commence their 2011 programme of activity on a visit to Clara Mountain. Millstreet Comhalthas Ceolteoiri Eireann host their 32nd Annual Feile Cheoil in Millstreet Community School.
Millstreet Celtic joyous hordes of supporters took a huge sense of satisfaction after team captain Timothy Kiely collects the Cork AIL Division 2 League title following a draw against nearest challengers Crescent Athletic.
John P Kelleher shaved his head and beard for the first time since 1979 in aid of the Irish Cancer Society, raising in excess of €2,300. An innovative take over of the phenomenal Mushera and Boggeragh Mountains proved successful for the inaugural staging of the Monster MAC adventure challenge in Millstreet Country Park.
Bright sunshine added to the occasion as 170 multi purpose athletes combined stamina and resilience to convene on a splendid setting. And for all concerned, the staging emerged as an organisational triumph.
MAY
THE Secret History of Eurovision Song Contest on RTE TV incorporates Millstreet staging in 1993. Bealtaine Festival is on at our local Library Celebrating, Creativity in Older Age. Millstreet Tidy Town Association embark on a comprehensive series of projects with a view to providing the town with a number of features. Community Council marks major honour bestowed in Malayasia on native son Brother Vincent Corkery.
Bro Vincent as a Director of La Salle Centre in Ipoh, received the Dato' Paduka Mahkota award at an investiture ceremony in the throne room of Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar in the spcial staging marked by conferring on awards and medals in the birthday's honour list of the Sultan of Perak's 82nd birthday. The Millstreet Capital Fund Draw met with an overwhelming response with subscribers far and wide supporting the venture.
Millstreet Celtic confirmed their status as the most consistent side of the season on collecting the Cork AUL Division 2A League title after sharing the spoils 3-3 against second placed Crescent Athletic in Millstreet Town Park. In doing so, Millstreet put behind the fallout of last season where in a controversial last game, the concession of a late goal denied them the winning of the league.
Crowds flock to Tubrid Well. Ceremony of Holy Communion takes place in St. Patrick's Church, Ballydaly and Cullen.
Millstreet Community School host Leaving Certificate Graduation Mass. Transition year students to Millstreet Community School and elder adults conclude Living Scenes Intergenerational Group. Kilcorney extends a warm hand of friendship for its long established Feis. Macra host Charity Concert in aid of Marymount Hospice Cork.
JUNE
SMOOTH finishing paved the way for Millstreet's Connie Cotter to capture the prestigious Gents Captains Prize hosted in Kanturk Golf club.
Margaret Reen celebrates 100th birthday at Green Glens function. Sergeant Jerry Carmody and Garda Eddie Grimes retire.
Nano Nagle Wing blessed by Bishop Bill Murphy at a very special ceremony in Presentation N.S., Millstreet. Following the con-celebration of Mass in St. Patrick's Church the blessing took place of school extension followed by the planting of a symbolic tree. Millstreet secure runner up place in the Intercity Halts category at the 16th annual Waterford Crystal-sponsored Iarnród Éireann Best Station Awards.
Cloughoula revels for the staging of its annual Pattern Day. A victim of the inclement weather on its original staging scheduled over the May bank holiday, the refixing met with a favourable response. Corpus Christi Procession takes place in the presence of a large attendance and favourable weather conditions.
Music and song hit Cullen on a high note for the annual Feis Laitiarain. Year. The 113rd staging of Feis Laitiarain on the grounds of Cullen GAA Pitch acts as a shop window for native culture.
Boys National School host annual Mass at Tubrid Well. Coffee Morning organised by Patricia Guerin raised funds for COPE. Millstreet Country Park welcomes the Muskerry Vintage Club on its annual run.
The 30th Anniversary Commemoration to the 1981 Hunger Strike w marked in parade and oration by "blanket man Geno Mccormack. Macroom Faith 'n Light Group host their annual Mass at Tubrid Well.
Enthusiastic members of Millstreet Tidy Towns Association with equally dedicated members of Millstreet Macra. Carriganima hosts Country and Western Festival.
Cork hosts the All Ireland Féile na bpeil, a marvellous occasion for Millstreet organisers, the event helping to create great friendships on hosting midlands visitors Longford Slashers. Millstreet National School Sports attracted an excellent entry to Millstreet Town Park.
Temperatures in the 20's Degree Celcius greeted the inaugural Aubane Social Club hosting of a Family Fun Day.
