School is proud of Jack's 'doodle for Google'
A SMALL North Cork school is calling on the entire county to a help a four year old boy win a contest to his artwork displayed by the most visited website in the world — and scoop a €10,000 grant for the school in the process.
Jack Grufferty, a Junior Infants pupil at Dromina National School, is into the final 13 of his category in the Doodle for Google competition.
The contest challenges students at both primary and secondary school levels to design a logo for Google, and the winning student will have their doodle appear on the Google Ireland homepage for 24 hours.
The winner will also receive a laptop for themselves, one for their teacher, and their school will receive a €10,000 technology grant.
Goolge received thousands of entries based on this year's theme ' I wish....' and Jack's imaginative entry illustrated his wish for his dad to buy his mum an elephant for Christmas.
In Jack's drawing the ' G' illustrates the elephant, the 'oo' are his mother's glasses, 'g' is an elephant mask, 'L' is the money and 'e' are his Dad's teeth.
Dromina NS Principal Betty Coughlan this week said that while the school would love to see Jack scoop the overall prize, they are hoping he can at least win his Junior and Senior Infants category.
"It is a great opportunity for Jack.," said Ms Coughlan.
"We have never entered any competition like this before, we are a small school so we need as much support as we can get.
"We are very proud of Jack," she concluded.
