St Mary's to build new theatre

However, ongoing legal negotiations between the developer, Donal McAuliffe, and Mallow Town Council have repeatedly delayed the opening of the theatre on O'Brien St.
Therefore, the announcement of the theatre at St Mary's has been widely welcomed by drama groups in Mallow.
Former Mallow town councillor David O'Callaghan, a local thespian, has been widely campaigning for the opening of the O'Brien St theatre since its construction.
Mr O'Callaghan said that while the theatre at St Mary's is welcome for the town efforts to get the O'Brien St facility up and running should continue.
"We are living in hope that down the road the theatre we have been waiting on for years will be opened," said Mr O'Callaghan.
Mallow based Labour TD Sean Sherlock also voiced frustration at the 'ridiculous' delay in opening the theatre.
"We have the seating, we have the building. Any other town would have the theatre up and running at this stage," said Deputy Sherlock.
