St. Patrick returns to visit Blarney
Thursday March 11 2010
AFTER an absence of 21 years, St. Patrick is to return to Blarney on March 17 next.
To celebrate this, the Blarney Community Council have organised St. Patrick's Day Festival will take place in the Village on that day. On the day a Farmers Market and Craft Fair will commence before noon at the entrance to the world famous Blarney Castle.
The traditional St. Patrick's Day Parade will commence at 3pm and will be followed by a recital by Blarney Brass and Reed as well as a traditional Music Festival in the Square. It will be a complete Family Day out for all.
Approximately 40 stalls are presently committed to taking part in the Farmer's Market and Craft Fair which will comprise a wide array of local artisan food producers, quality food to go and quality craft manufacturers. The demand for these products is expected to be high, so come early. It is expected that this Market will become a regular activity in the village in the future.
The actual Parade will commence at 3pm and will follow the old established route, starting on Castleclose Road, travelling up Hedge Road, past Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal, around past the BFS, along Shamrock Terrace and Millstream Row before entering the village centre and passing the reviewing stand on the northern side of the Square.
A large number of local groups and businesses, as well as many from outside the village will be taking part. Further information on the St. Patrick's Day Parade can be had from committee chairman Kevin Conway on (087) 2185550.
In addition there will be a Tree Art Presentation in the grounds of the Church of the Resurrection, Blarney, and a video presentation on Blarney in by-gone days in the Square during the day.
The traditional Music Festival will take place in the Square immediately after the Parade and will feature Irish dancers, traditional Irish Music and singing. There will also be a recital in the Square by the Blarney Brass and Reed Band after the Parade, which should make for a very enjoyable evening for all.
Many of the local eateries and hostelries will be doing special deals on the day, so come to Blarney, the village only ten minutes from the Opera House.
