The Beef boom continues in Kerry
THE Livestock Price Coordinator for the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers' Association (ICSA) has said that the New Year price surge has continued in the county this week with record prices continuing to be paid by factories for stock. John Cleary said that a return to trade after the Christmas break by the marts has been one of the contributing factors to strong factory prices.
"Prices are incredibly strong in the factories as well as in the marts following the recommencing of trade over the past week. Reports are that factories have a strong presence at marts and this had led to better prices being received at ringside. Bulls in particular have been in strong demand at the mart as well as at the factory this week," said Mr Cleary.
"The outlook in the county and across the entire country remains positive for the foreseeable future. The kill rate should stay below average for the majority of the year and this will help in keeping prices in the factory high as they struggle to meet their weekly quotas. For the time being however, farmers who have the stock can explore either the mart or the factory with both trading very well at the minute," Mr Cleary said.
