WARM wishes were paid to Cork County Council engineer, Martin Corcoran who worked in Millstreet for just shy of three decades.

At last Friday's Kanturk Area meeting, senior engineer Aidan Weir said Mr Corcoran provided "a loyal and dedicated service," to Cork County Council.

"He has given tremendous service and did great improvements in Millstreet, where he was based for so many years," said Mr Weir

Mr Weir outlined some of the major projects that Mr Corcoran was involved in which included the Keel Bridge project, along with Banteer Railway bridge, as well as overseeing the Millstreet Civic Amenity Site. Other projects included the refurbishment of Carnegie Hall. Mr Weir said it may be 18 years since Eurovision came to Millstreet, but Mr Corcoran played an instrumental role in making great improvements were made in the town prior to event which was viewed by millions around the town.

"We will miss him, Martin was a key link chain and we could always rely on him when it came to predicting flooding in the Blackwater. He has given 37 years service and we will also miss the camaraderie," said Mr Weir.

Tom Stritch, senior council official endorsed all Mr Weir's sentiments. "North Cork has been a better place with Martin's presence over the years," said Mr Stritch.

Councillor Gerard Murphy (FG), Cllr Noel Buckley (FG), Cllr Michael Donegan (FF) and Cllr Timmy Collins (Ind) all heaped praise upon Mr Corcoran for his dedicated years of service and his professionalism.

Afterwards, Mr Corcoran said he was "overwhelmed" by the kind sentiments. He said that he found the Councillors in the Kanturk Electoral Area to be "consciousness and excellent at what they did."

He also thanked Mr Stritch and Mr Weir along with all the engineering and administrative staff for their help and friendship for the past 37 years.

"North Cork has been a wonderful place to work with a great work ethic," he said.
