Volunteers on awards shortlist

Thursday November 05 2009

TWO well known Duhallow personalties take time out from their hectic schedules to pause for national recognition this Thursday after reaching the final of the Ireland Involved Awards.

Rockchapel's Jack Roche and Millstreet'S Seán Radley are amongst those acknowledged in the Specsavers-sponsored event that showcases the work of volunteers across the country.

Upwards of 30 individuals will attend Thursday awards ceremony at a dinner hosted by the Taoiseach's Office in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin.

Awards will be presented to the 10 overall category winners before President Mary McAleese presents the award for the Irish Volunteer of the Year 2009.

The Irish Volunteer of the Year will go on to represent Ireland at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Saturday, December 5 in conjunction with International Volunteer Day.

Over the years, both Jack Roche and Seán Radley have contributed to the North West Cork region in many meaningful and practical ways. Jack holding a long standing involvement with community life in Rockchapel and IRD Duhallow is nominated for an award in the I-care about the community category.

Seán Radley, curator to Millstreet Museum and actively involved with LTV Millstreet, is selected in the Arts, Culture and Media category.
