Work to start on Patrician Academy gym
CONSTRUCTION work is set to get underway next week on an exciting new project at the Patrician Academy in Mallow.
Junior Minister Sean Sherlock will 'turn the sod' on a new €620,000 sports hall and gymnasium at the school next Monday morning.
It is hoped that work on the project will be in full swing by the middle of next month and that the new facility will be fully operational by next August in time for the new school year.
When completed the new building will incorporate a large play area, changing facilities, a viewing area and a meeting room.
School principal Catherine Fitzpatrick said that the new extension open yet another chapter in the school's proud 133-year tradition.
"This is just the first in a number of exciting projects planned at the Patrician Academy aimed at catering for the increasing number of enrolments at the school," said Ms Fitzpatrick.
"Having improved sports and PE facilities will greatly enhance the educational experience of students in the areas of both curricular and extra-curricular activities," she added.
