Rebel empire strikes back
THEY have been precariously close to the precipice more than once this season, but the Cork minor footballers produced what can only be described as the ultimate in gutsy comebacks at Croke Park last Sunday. With 44 minutes gone in a rip-roaring All Ireland semi-final, it looked oddson that they were about to be pushed over the edge by a Galway side that had claimed a fifth goal to move 5-6 to 2-6 ahead.
Rebels pay price for slow start
WHILE they deserved better than to finish seven points in arrears, Cork could hardly quibble about the outcome of the All-Ireland intermediate hurling final at Thurles last Saturday night. It has to be acknowledged that Kilkenny were the better-balanced side, and the threat from their attack was certainly a bit more widespread, with five of their six starting forwards, as well as two of the substitutes, contributing to their tally of 2-11 from play over the hour.
Young stars shine as Fantasy dance show wows the crowds
THE long-awaited Spotlight production The Fantasy Show took place last Thursday night to a packed Mallow Youth centre. Youth worker, Robert Green did his chances of a career in the entertainment industry no harm at all with his lavish entrance as MC for the night, but despite Robert's best efforts, there was no doubt who the crowd were there to see.
Cussen inspires Sars into semis
BRIDE Rovers' turbulent Senior Hurling Championship campaign came to an end last Sunday evening as they were thoroughly hammered by a rampant Sarsfields side at Pairc Uí Chaoimh. After the well documented trials and tribulations of the previous weeks it was no wonder that Rovers never really got to the pace of the game as they came out on the wrong side of a 2-20 to 2-6 score line.
Five goal Araglin secure final berth
ARAGLIN progressed to meet Harbour Rovers in the first of the Shreelawn Oil JAHC semifinals when at Ballyhooly on Saturday evening last goals in either half helped them see off the challenge from Ballyclough. The opening stages saw both sides quick off the mark with Kevin Fitzgerald getting proceedings under way when he pointed in the second minute.
Mitchelstown hang on for glory
MITCHELSTOWN were forced to see off a late revival by Kilshannig in the last 12 minutes before they claimed their 19th Fermoy Credit Union sponsored JAFC title witnessed by a large crowd at Doneraile on Sunday. The winners were the sharper side for most of the game and their early dominance was reflected with Shane Beston, Dave Dineen and Padraigh Donegan having points to race them into a 0-3 to no score lead by the 10th minute.
