Appealing ties in Ducon Cup

Thursday February 16 2012

THE Ducon Cup is living up to its appeal and two draws from three starts confirm the competitiveness of teams in the 10 team league.

Knocknagree wiped away the early cobwebs against Dromtariffe first time out as they welcome seasonal debutants Rockchapel on this Friday night. Conceding two early goals against Dromtariffe left Knocknagree wirh a hill to climb. In fairness Knocknagree responded admirably to force a draw.

The host side are gearing up for a visit to Ventry to participate in the Paidi Ó Se Tournament and the latest assignment against Rockchapel is sure to be ideal preparation. Rockchapel made to it to two divisional JAFC Finals in the past three years only to falter to Kanturk on both occasions.

And with Tom Doody on the sideline this season, Rockchapel are sure to strive might and main to go the extra step.

Ducon Cup holders Dromtariffe play host to Boherbue in the prospect of a lively tussle on Sunday. Boherbue created somewhat of a surprise in a championship clash last April before Dromtariffe gathered consolation from an outright win in the league. Dromtariffe failed to build upon a vibrant start against Knocknagree and all eyes will be on Boherbue's early season form.

Castlemagner took heart from a deserved draw away to Millstreet when they entertain Cullen that disappointed against Lyre. Millstreet take the trip to Kilbrin where the 2010 County Junior B champions will be keen to build upon a promising start in A ranks last season.

The County Football leagues commence this weekend with games far and wide. Kiskeam are in amongst the big boys in Division 1, travelling to Dunmanay to face Dohenys on Sunday before welcoming Castlehaven the following week.

Division 3 fare puts Newmarket on the road to St. Nicholas with Ballydesmond home to Adrigole. Newcomers Kanturk are away to Mayfield in Division 4.
