JUST four teams remain in the Credit Union Duhallow U-20 Football Invitation Cup and two attractive semi-finals go ahead this weekend. The remaining quartet are laden down with strong sides, the strength of Kerry teams, confirmed on the involvement of three representatives with just one Cork contender in Avondhu.

The meeting of Kerry champions West Kerry and Rathmore / Kilcummin is an interesting pairing at Rathmore on Friday night. Last season as debutants West Kerry defiantly shrugged off the challenge of Ballincollig, St Brendan and Duhallow in the knockout phase to land the outright spoils.

West Kerry offered enterprising effort to dispose the interest of Cork champions Ballincollig and Castlehaven. Though parading without their Castlegregory contingent owing to the All Ireland JAFC series confirms West Kerry's wellbeing who to date have drawn inspiration from Daire O'Sullivan, Matthew Guiheen, Eoin McGerailt, Colm Benny Moriarty and the Geaney cousins.

Rathmore / Kilcummin will command home support from a side well equipped to test the defending holders. In the opening round, a slicker Rathmore / Kilcummin edged out Avondhu before carrying too much firepower for St Brendans in the quarter-final.

Operating a eye catching game based on a positive defensive, effective midfield and creative attack, the better balanced Rathmore/Kilcummin held control against St Brendans with Brian O'Leary, George O'Keeffe, Donal O'Sullivan, Eoin Lawlor and the Reens solid all through.

An intriguing game lies in prospect, the reigning Kerry and Invitation Cup champions West Kerry pitted up against an eager Rathmore / Kilcummin. West Kerry will be entitled to the favourites tag yet Rathmore / Kilcummin will lack nothing in terms of hunger nor desire.

The second semi-final appears to be a close affair between Feale Rangers and Avondhu. Significantly both sides availed of the back door to mount a drive in their respective hopes for advancement. Feale Rangers faltered to Castlehaven in round 1 yet they availed of a bye into the quarter-final against Duhallow. A good start is half the battle and so it was for Rangers on mounting a first half offensive to grab the crucial scores. Boosting their cause was the effective play of Diarmuid and Donal Leahy at midfield, backed up by Enda Galvin and David O'Reilly with Tadgh Curtin a huge influence at full-forward on claiming a 2-6 scoring tally.

Opponents Avondhu attempt to build upon promising displays offered todate in their efforts to prosper the Cork cause. Enduring a roller coast ride enroute to this stage, Avondhu were defeated by Rathmore / Kilcummin in round one. However, they overcame that setback on emerging full value for a victory over Ballincollig in the back door before coming good over St Kierans in a competitive quarterfinal.

Avondhu are capable of holding a purpose to their game on the prominence of Tadgh O'Sullivan, Teddy O'Shea, Shane Beston, Sean Finn and Jack Hutchings.

Both sides are capable of bringing quality to the fore. And for that reason, a closely fought game is in prospect.

Meanwhile Ballydesmond and Kiskeam made their debut for 2010 on respective wins over Glanworth and Ballinora in the opening round to the Tom Creedon Cup. Victory sets up Ballydesmond a second round clash against Ballyclogh with Kiskeam scheduled to take on Kinsale.
