Churchtown too strong for disappointing Shanballymore
DIVISION 1 FL Churchtown 1-9 Shanballymore 0-2
Thursday March 11 2010
CHURCHTOWN continued their good run in the Cavanagh's Fermoy sponsored league when at Shanballymore on Sunday morning last, they were comfortable winners over the home side in the Div 1 FL.
The opening stages were keenly contested with just a point separating the sides after 20 minutes 0-2 to 0-1. However the remainder of the half saw Churchtown up their efforts considerably with Thomas Fehin, Thomas Fitzgibbon, John Breen, Kieran Brennan and John Maher most effective and they were to show the greater urgency in the run up to the break that saw them add a further 1-4 without reply to move into a 1-6 to 0-1 advantage their goal coming from Thomas Fehin when his effort went in off the post.
The second half saw Shanballymore enjoy their best spell of the game during the entire third quarter but unfortunately they were to miss numerous scoring chances.
Instead it was Churchtown that stretched their lead further when Thomas Fitzgibbon pointed a free in the 44th minute.
Shanballymore replied with a point through Vincent Burke soon after but this proved to be their final score with Churchtown sealing the issue with late scores from Michael Doyle and Thomas Fitzgibbon.
