Thursday March 05 2009
CLYDA Rovers had two points to spare over Liscarroll in the Division two FL at Mourneabbey on Saturday night last. Both sides were all out to take the points having each lost their opening game. The lead changed hands a couple of times. Clyda started with a first minute goal by Declan Roche. Liscarroll replied with points by Darren Feehan and Seamus Sheehan.
They edged ahead in the 15th minute when Sheehan netted from the penalty spot. The home side replied with goals by Coleman Lane and a penalty in injury time by Cian Conway that saw them ahead at the break 3-1 to 1-4.
Liscarroll replied on the restart with a goal from a free by Seamus Sheehan. The same player gave his side the lead with a point. Clyda Rovers again came back well and added three points on the trot with Declan Roche having a goal at the end of the third quarter 4-4 to 2-5.
Points by Alan Ballentine (two) and Stephen Keane closed the gap 2-8 to 4-4. Both sides exchanged a point with Liscarroll being denied two good goal scoring chances in the dying moments by a solid Clyda Rovers defence.
